OPK w/ lines
So I made the mistake of getting an OPK test with lines instead of the smiley. I have a 28 day cycle and I started testing on CD11. Per my monthly cycles, I should have O'd on CD15. That is not what the test told me. At first, I thought I tested negative all week (no O). Now that I line up all the test, it looks like I may have gotten a positive on CD12 and CD13. The instructions says one line should be as dark or darker than. Neither line looked that way to me, but on those two CD's the line do look darker than the other days. Has anyone used the line OPK's and experienced this?

Re: OPK w/ lines
If they are equally dark, you O'ed. I have a lighter line, which means no LH surge yet.

Re: OPK w/ lines
Ugh...I had been using the OPKs with the lines up until last month (I started using a CBEFM0. I really liked them because I could see the progress and the smiley ones drove me nuts waiting. But, they were REALLY difficult to read and I never had a month where I was 100% sure that I O'd. The lines are supposed to be the same darkness if you did O, but I never saw them that way. Soooo, annoying, I know!

Yes. This happened to me. This is my first month TTC and I'd never used OPK's before. I have a 28d cycle and get typical ovulatory cramps around CD14. I bought 2 kits (lines and digital) and started on CD8 with the lines. (I know it's crazy to start so early but since it was my 1st month I didn't want to miss it in case I O'd early.)
Every day from CD8 I held in my urine and tested when I got home. Every day until CD19! I wasn't even going to test on CD19 but something told me to give it one more shot.
Throughout this time, I had had lines that were light, semi-dark and "kinda the same" and sometimes no line at all...you name it. I was sure I messed up!
Well, CD19 I had a line that I thought was pretty equal (but still didn't think it was exact or darker like the directions say). At that point, I had emptied my bladder but wanted to use one of the digitals to confirm (the whole reason I bought the CBE box). I was able to squeeze out 3 drops into a cup and submerge the tip of that digital under the 3 drops for 15 seconds. Then I saw a
The moral to this long story is: It really becomes quite apparent when you have your surge and you're using the lines. The lines look nearly identical. I say go with lines and a use digital to confirm if you like confirmation like I do.

Re: OPK w/ lines
I bought both the less expensive line test (stick in a cup of urine) and the digital happy face ones, more because I was just confused! But doing this ended up working great. I used the cheaper line tests for about a week last month and could see the lines gradually getting darker (which made me feel better that something was happening) and then on the day that I thought it looked like it could be the surge I dipped the digital one in the cup immediately after and a happy face popped up! Made me feel better having double confirmation and it can get really expensive testing with the digital happy face ones every day, every month!
