Huggies, pampers - are they all the same?
Which newborn diapers are you getting? Are you getting more than one brand?

With my DD, I used Huggies newborn, only because they had the cut out for the belly button. I wasn't happy with them though. I used Pampers the rest of the time.

They are def not all the same. Some people do better with different brands. It is so weird but it really depends on the child.
You will probably try out all of them before settling on a brand. I am not a Huggies fan. We use CVS brand and Pampers.

Most people I know use Pampers but I do know a few moms who like Huggies. Honestly it depends on the baby. Also some babies do better with one kind over another (swaddlers vs baby dry). I would maybe get a small package of swaddlers and try those first (that is what we got at the hospital) and it is kind of trial and error.
We used Pampers Swaddlers - but for a short while DD started pooping out of them - no matter what size we tried so we switched for a short time to baby dry - I wasn't really crazy about them but they worked well for her. We ended up going from them to Pampers cruisers and we love them.

i hated huggies truthfully-only use pampers. like most pampers but really liked swaddlers, and now cruisers. we never have a leak.

Don't even bother buying NB diapers.
The hospital will give you a bunch while you are there (I believe most use the Swaddlers) and then you can see what your DC needs. My DS did wear NB diapers, but a lot of babies go right the the 1s

I bought a large box of Pampers sawddlers in newborn and a large box of size 1 swaddlers. DS was 8 lbs 1 oz when he was born. He's almost 3 weeks old and I'm still using the newborn size diapers. They've worked well so far.

I think it all depends on the baby. I have a few friends who only use Pampers, but then some who tiold me Huggies worked better with their babies....
I guess I am trying both!

I'd suggest you buy a few packages but don't go crazy - every baby responds well to different diapers. Once your baby is here, test out a few and whichever work best, go with.
I always used huggies with my DD because they worked best on her...

Nope they are not all the same.
I am a Luvs mommy. Not only are they cheaper they worked the best for us.
The size 1 is really hard to fine so I order them online.
With my 20 month old I actually use the CVS supreme diapers and LOVE them.
Both my boys stayed in NB size for at least 3 weeks. Take as many as you cany from the hospital. I wouldn't buy a ton of diapers before you come home. just have a package to get you through. Your DH can always go get more.

We used Huggies Newborn.
As soon as the pack was gone switched to Pampers Swaddlers.
DS always leaked through the Huggies (we used the newborn ones for the "belly button")

a close friend who has two daughters told me huggies or pampers are just as good...but to AVOID LUVS like the plague. She said after the third diaper change and leak - she threw the box away...

See, every baby is different. We loved Luvs here. I only switched to Pampers b/c DS could wear them through the night, whereas we had to use Huggies Overnights when he was in the Luvs

I tried every type of diaper with DS when he was first born.. He could only use pamper swaddlers... then when he got older I was able to switch to the BJ brand diapers CHEAPER and they worked great... now he is only in LUVS... you really have to see what works well with your child...

huggies wasnt good for my DD- they leaked. we used pampers. I tried huggies agian with my son and they are fine- no leakage. so i use whatever i have the coupon for (mainly pampers).

I think the Pampers Swaddlers are the best. I find Huggies to be less absorbent, more irritating to my DDs bottom. I have returned all the Huggies I had gotten at my shower, one being a case of 246 diapers that someone got me at COSTCO, simply b/c I hate them.
Pampers Swaddlers all the way.
ETA - I didnt even read the replies until after. I am shocked so many people said the same thing about Huggies brand as what I said. I HATED them. I used them to wipe my fingers when I had leftover ones, I refused to use them on DD after they barely absorbed at night and then she got a rash.

I also used Newborn size up until DD was one mth old, around 9lbs. I think most people would do best with some newborn size diapers (even though the hospital did have my DD in size 1 diapers, rolled down).
