I think you were just reading my mind because this was gonna be my next post. Im not the most comfortable with my body as result of being raped years ago.. i thought i was pretty much over it but lately i have clammed up again regarding being comfortable with my body. I want to try so hard to BF because i have heard of all the positive things but then fear not being successful at it. Or if i decide not to i know people will have their thoughts as well. SO To all who respond help me too. Im so torn My DH is comfortable either way and just wants me to be happy. I know if i cant relax and be comfortable with the idea it makes it all that much more difficult.

from a BTDT mom, I think if you are on the fence, just give it a try

it is an amazing bonding experience and I cherish that time DD and I spent together. Nothing wrong with ff, but I recommend at least trying to BF if you are on the fence Chat Icon

Does everyone get a visit from a lactation consultant? I am not wavering on my decision, so I would rather not have to deal with he/she at all.

Pretty much. Just remember that it is YOUR decision. Tell them as nicely but as sternly as possible that you considered it while you were pregnant and have decided that it is not for you and your family. Just end by saying ......"thanks for visiting!"

I've previously posted a few topics on BF as well. I REALLY hate the idea of breastfeeding. DH is adamant about how good it is for the baby. I understand the benefits for the baby so I'm going to try but if I don't get the hang of it quickly, I'm not trying too hard. I really can't imagine myself pumping milk while I am at work either.

Thank you all so much for sharing your thoughts, experiences, and kind encouragements!
I think I owe it to my child and myself to at least give it a try. Will just have to do what comes naturally when the day arrives, stressing over it now is not doing myself any favors Chat Icon

Happy New Year everyone!

Re: Does anyone else feel like this re:BF

I am not a preggo mom but I am a btdt bf'ing mommy. I am about to hit 12 months of bf'ing. I was adamant about bf'ing because I have health issues that I was told I would not have if my mother had bf me. I am not saying my mom was a bad mom. When I was born ff'ing was the thing to do. i just wanted to be sure that my ds would not have the problems that I have so I worked d a m n hard to make it work. SO give it a try if it works for you great if nt you know you at least tried Chat Icon

I can totally understand your thoughts.

I was not BF, Im "normal".
I however am going to give it a shot, for the obvious reasons and its FREE!! I also am not going to panic and loose sleep if it does not work out I will simple go to FF. Oh and yeah Im sure you will get WAY different opinions on it from both sides. You need to do what is best for you and YOUR baby. GL I would talk to your ob about it and then maybe a ped.

This is exactly how I feel!

Re: Does anyone else feel like this re:BF

i'm a bit nervous about BFing (if it hurts, etc), but with everything I went through just to get PG, and to be doubly blessed with twins, I will bite the bullet and BF because it will give them optimum nutrition. If I can quit smoking after over 20 years for them, I can do anything! Chat Icon

I think your motto to try is a good one because if it's really not for you then you can at least say you tried. You don't usually get the option a few weeks in to try without a lot of effort to bring your milk back in.

It sounds like you are doing the right thing by trying it. Maybe you will enjoy the experience more than you even think!

For me, I didn't really know many people that did it but I always knew that I wanted to...somehow. I experienced some of what you are concerned about but made it through. I did have a crevice (forget a little crack) that developed down one of my nipples. DD did not have a correct latch on one side, whether it was the way I held her on that side or what have you. I took care of it though and it cleared up within a few weeks. Sore nipples....had 'em...again due to incorrect latch. Managed my way through that too. Back to work at 4 months, pumped 2x a day at work. Not so bad! Then at 7 months DD started to refuse me so I exclusively pumped 6x a day until she was 11.5 months. Then I was pumping 3x a day at work and 3x at home.

Was it all a lot of work...heck ya! Honestly though, it just became part of my daily routine. It was not a hardship to me at all. I enjoyed it---even when it was difficult.

I am not trying to sell you on it, just sharing my experience. FF babies do seem to sleep longer stretches of time....I won't lie. DD was up every 2.5-3 hours for the first 3 months. That is definitely one pro for formula. BF is free so there's one pro for BFing. With BFing, I dropped weight like crazy. I was burning up more calories than I could possibly consume. I was down to pre-pregnancy weight in no time.

Really though...you will hear lots of stories. You need to just do what is comfortable and manageable for you. Forget what others think of your decision. If you want to try it, I think that's great. If you don't want to, then I think that is the best decision for you.Chat Icon

Ditto, ditto and ditto-I lost 53 lbs in 5 weeks-my clothes are falling off of me nd it doesn't seem to be stopping which is good since I was overweight pre pregnancy. I have had to cut out dairy since one of my sons is sensitive to it. Honestly once your babies are here no sacrifice seems like too much. You would go to the ends of the earth for them and eat only bread and water if it would help them. I say give it a try and give yourself a month-if it doesn't work at least you tried. I have taken my sons from bottle to boob with no issues and they also use binkys(Mam brand)

I totally understand the weirdness of it...with dd i gave ti a try for the immunity piece and low and behold, depstie trying to hide it from friends and famiily most fothe time b/c it weirded me out...I did it for 14 mos (pumping from work...) - if you are up for trying it, feel free, if not...don't worry about it...its up to you, a personal decision and no=one elses business! Chat Icon Your ob might be good to talk to, but don't let any medical professional ever pressure you to do something you aren't comfy with....good luck! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
