Back from Growth Sono

I am in shock! i still sitting here saying WOW. im 33 weeks today and baby is measuring 5lbs 5 oz 13 days a head so now edd is feb 1st. She measured his head and is measuring at 36 weeks. he is in the 69th percentile (not sure what that means). I am soo shocked because everyone says wow you dont look like your 33 weeks pregnant and then when they feel for the baby at madonna they say "oh wow you must have a tiny one in there" so does this mean im more than likely gonna have a big baby. I dont have GD and now im wondering if i was misdiagnosed. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Thanks for letting me share

Growth sonos can be +/- 1 lb as well. So, DC may not be as big as you think---or BIGGERChat Icon

Congrats to a healthy baby!

Yup.. was just going to say that!

I had a growth sono at 32 weeks, and the baby as measuring about 4lbs3oz. The tech said that it's more of an estimate.

Re: Back from Growth Sono

glad to hear the baby is healthy...

just wanted to let you know that percentile is how the baby (or anything that your measuring... could be test scores for example) fall within a group. don't think of percentile as a grade... so in school a 69 on a test---not so good. but the 69th percentile is good. the 50th percentil is dead even. so for example, because the baby is in the 69th percentile, that means out of every 100 babies only 31 babies are measuring bigger. he is well above average. does that make sense?

Re: Back from Growth Sono

That's great! At my 32 week sono, baby weighed 5.8 lbs. When she was born at 36 weeks, she weight 7.4 lbs so mine was right for sure. That is such great news, I too barely gained only 17 lbs and carried small but had a BIG baby!!! So I am happy to hear your baby isn't as small as you were worried about. Chat Icon

Re: Back from Growth Sono

thats great - and sounds like a healthy size --
but from my experience growth sonos can be wrong - i developed preclampsia and had DD at 37 weeks - at 3pm they were saying we would be lucky if she was 4 1/2 pounds --- out she came 9 hours later 6 pounds even and almost 21 inches long!

Right. I personally never really went by the growth sono. When we went with DS#2 they said that he was measuring a week earlier than my due date. Needless to say. DS was born one day past my due date. He was 8lbs 13 onces which I guess is big. But, DS#1 was measuring to date and was 3 weeks early and 7 lbs 12 onces. In retrospect DS#1 would have been bigger than DS#2 if he made it 3 weeks later and he measured smaller during the growth sono.

I guess my point is that - it's hard to say. I'm going to guess you have a baby in the upper 7 pound range.

Congrats and good luck to you and your family. The countdown is so fun.

When I went for my 20 week sono they said he is in the 97%ile. They are often wrong about this stuff or maybe that is what i tell myself..Chat Icon

Re: Back from Growth Sono

I had to be monitored weekly at Madonna for my last pg because I contracted Fifth's Disease.

At first, DS was measuring very large, 3/4 weeks ahead. I expected that, because DD was 9 lbs.

A few days before my C-Section, the Doctor said he would only weigh about 6 lbs. When he was born at 38 weeks, he was 7 lbs 10 oz. Chat Icon

Don't stress. According to my growth sono I was on track for a 10-11lb baby. I had a healthy 8lb 11oz boy. Those sonos can be WAY off.
