What can I take on the plane
to help me relax/sleep? I can NEVER sleep on a plane. Even in First class flying overnight. It's so frustrating because I am tired, but can never fall asleep. We are flying to Germany next month and I would like a little help. The only thing I can think of is Benadryl, but does that make you drowsy?

Re: What can I take on the plane
I would personally not take any sleep aids. if you get all "drugged up" and still can't fall asleep, you will be miserable.
that happened to me once with NyQuil (but I was home). I was in really bad shape the entire next day.
DH and I are leaving tonight for Paris and I also can't sleep on a plane, so I am worried about it, but hopefully I will be able to get at least a few hours. I'm going to be a tired mess tomorrow. but I will still be in Paris on vacation. things could be worse
eta: I am going to take 2 aspirin before we take off. DH said that might help me relax.

Re: What can I take on the plane
I wouldn't recommend you take benedryl because it can be very drying and the air on planes is terribly dry to begin with. How about Simply Sleep? It's basically Tylenol PM without the Tylenol. Or maybe get a prescription from your doc for Ambien?
ETA: You know, now that I think about it your flight is only about 8 hours right? That may be too short of a time to take a sleeping pill. I only take them on flights that are longer then 12 hours because they can make you very out of it when you wake up. If you do take something try to take only a half dose.

Re: What can I take on the plane
Either one of these:
Two Simply Sleep
or
Two Dramamine pills
...works great for me!

I was going to suggest Dramamine too.

Re: What can I take on the plane
I had to take a red-eye back from Cali once for a work meeting on a Fri night and had a wedding the next day at 11am in NY. I took melatonin and it helped me relax and sleep on the plane a bit.

Re: What can I take on the plane
I used to travel a ton for work and was a regular on the friday night red eye. I used to just have a big glass of red wine.
Worked for me every time. It's never great sleep, but it was better than nothing.
