c-section fears?

As you all know we scheduled a march 5th c-section to get our monster twins out LOL( both weighing and measuring HUGE for twins) and I was SOO happy inthe beginning. I loved the idea of having a set date...and God willing not going beforehand. Now I am starting to panic a liittle...I had a gastric bypass 5 yrs ago and have a 5 inch vertical incision in middle of belly so I am NO stranger to surgery and recovery...I was back to myself about 2 wks after that driving and taking care of myself...whats freaking me out is the first few days I remember the pain...not being abe to stand up comfortably becausee it pulled the stomach muscles that were cut and healing.....i know the c-section cut is much lower and horizontal so I am praying it will not be as bad.....anyone else all of a suudden feel apprehensive aout c-section. I also fear DH in the OR LOL..he has no proble with blood...we watch those TLC surgery shows etc...and I have been preparing him with baby storys....my fear is that him seeing me on that table will change his attitude and he will panic..i need him for support.....God let this go good LOL

Hi fellow twin momma!

I had an emergency c-section with my daughter. Your husband cannot come into the room until your are properly prepped. In additon, they will put a screen up so he cannot see what is going on.

I just had my csec a few weeks ago. I honestly thought it was a peice of cake. I never felt I couldn't stand straight up. I was up and running around in the hospital, drs and nurses could not believe I had a csection.

THe cut is made very low, maybe that's why you don't (or I didn't) feel anything pulling me down. The only thing I felt during healing (and still do here and there) is a burning tight feeling on one side of the incision.

I had an epidural/spinal and they did not allow dh in the room as that was done. That didn't hurt at all, very easy and almost painless! I also had an epi pump and they left that in for two days, so I was nicely drugged up. Maybe that helped alot. They also gave an IV antiinflammatory called Toradol which worked great.

My suggestion, ASK for Colace, a stool softener, b/c some drs don't automatically give it. That worked wonders as per friends advice re first bowel movement after the csection.

DH won't see anything. My DH sat down on the stool they gave him by my head and didn't see anything other than some blood of mine on the floor. Just being honest, to prepare you. But the anesthesiologists do a NICE job of keeping you and DH busy with chit chat to distract you both.

The only thing bugging me is the ugly bump left from my csec but the dr toldme to give it a few mths to subside. Although, I may be left with a bump from the incision underneath and that is normal for some.

I would ask your doctor whether you are a candidate for a bikini cut c/s if you already have a vertical incision on your stomach. I recall reading once you have had a vertical c/s you always have to have one because of the way your stomach heals. I would ask if that is the case for gastric bypass as well. As for preping for surgery, my DH was permitted in the OR with me while the anesthesiologist game me the spinal so that I could calm down. I was extremely scared of the spinal because I had had oral surgery and the meds they used on me did not work. I felt the entire surgery. I was afraid that I would have to feel the c/s - thankfully I was ok and didn't but I was extremely afraid I would.

I had an emergency one and i was so nervous i was shaking...it was no big deal, i felt nothing and if anything, i had been in labor for..19 hours or so and that was pure hell like nothing i have ever experienced..so, C section was great in comparision...as far as recovery, it hurts the first few days, i could hardly walk but it got better quick and now 3 weeks later i just feel dull pain and some burning a little..
NO biggie and dont worry at all, i have had surgeries before too and honestly, this was prob easier!!! AND, baby comes out quick...labor can go on forever so that is one really good positive!

I was induced, but ended up with a c-section. DH can't deal with needles. He left the room every time a nurse tried to insert an IV in my arm. He also left when I had the epidural. I didn't mind that he left b/c I know how he is and my mom was there for support. DH was great during the c-section. I was so nervous I was shaking during most of it. He was there to calm me down. He even decided to look over the sheet to see being born. Don't worry. I'm sure your DH will be fine.
