Huge, tender, lump from PIO shot?
These shots are getting more painful each day. I warm up the shot and then use a heating pad afterwards, but every now and then, like today,I wake up with the SOREST tush and a huge arse lump on one cheek.
Any suggestions?

I'm just wondering if DH is doing something wrong on the days I wake up with a huge, huge, tender lump in my tush? I don't get it from every shot.

Totally normal. By the time I was done with the shots my butt was so sore. I was happy to switch to suppositories by that point.

Re: Huge, tender, lump from PIO shot?
Not that I ever took PIO as long as you have now, but you should be massaging the area right after the shot to disburse the meds. I usually did this right after the shot when I was holding the gauze. Even though I did it only 2wks I never had a bruise or lump. Do this for like 5 whole minutes. Then do the heat. I also noticed that the PIO stayed with me for like 2wks after I stopped and had to massage around to get rid of it totally (not lumps but the area felt a little funny). It really builds up under the skin. I think if you can find a place alone (don't want any weird stares), you can massage the area a little bit throughout the day. I also used a loofah in the shower.
Wonder how many wks your RE keeps you on it? Its all worth it though, isn't it?

ABSOLUTELY, I am not complaining, just wondering if we're doing something wrong. Hubby massages it for a minute or two before I put on the heating pad, but is too scared to hurt me so it feels more like a caress I think I'll be taking the massaging part in my own hands from now on
Don't know how long I'm on it, though I suppose it's up to my ob/gyn once I get released to him/her at around 8 weeks. I've heard varying reports - anything from 8 weeks to 12 weeks.

Re: Huge, tender, lump from PIO shot?
I'm talking serious pressure massage. I had a nurse do my PIO and she made me do that right after.

I used to lay down and massage it myself while I'd watch tv.
just an FYI, my OB had nothing to do with my meds - it was all up to my RE, I was released to OB by 8 weeks (we saw/heard the heartbeat) but still had to see RE for meds and to monitor my levels

Re: Huge, tender, lump from PIO shot?
I have only been doing them 8 days. So far, no lump but a little sore. After DH does the shot, I massage for at least 5 minutes with broad strokes and hard and deep Then I have the heating pad on it for at least 15 minutes after.
What I hate about them is when I first started it was no sweat, did not hurt at all. As time goes by they hurt more and more! The nurse told me it was normal but still

Re: Huge, tender, lump from PIO shot?
I've never had any problems with PIO. Just warmed it in a dixie cup of warm water, and rubbed the area afterwards for a few minutes.
