I feel so bad...

so this was the first time I had to board Pokey while we went away

he thought he was slick on wednesday - when he saw the suitcases come out

he pretended that he was having problems peeing!

I knew it was an act- he had just peed in the litter box- but it only justifed what I was doing

he was so upset when I picked him up this morning

he was VERY vocal- which he normally isn't

and he was shaking

I feel so bad, I don't know if I could do that to him again

but I can't leave him home alone incase he has problems peeing

ugh.....

Chat Icon Chat Icon Poor Pokey.

It sux at first (Cooper was so mad the first time we left him that when he got home, he walked right past us, into the bedroom, and hopped up onto the bed and peed on the bed) but believe it or not, the more you do it, the more they get used to it.

Maybe next time you leave him, you can add things to your package (if available) that allow him to play with a staff worker or something along those lines... or maybe you can leave more "comforts of home" with him like toys.

Hope he starts to feel better soon!

Re: I feel so bad...

awwww poor little guy. I've never had to board a cat before, but my guess is that they probably don't take to it as well as dogs do... Chat Icon

So cute Beth! Poor Pokey, sometimes we have to do things that are best for our pets, even thought hey hate them (and might be mad at us for a few days afterwards!). Chat Icon

Beth, I was away for a week and hired a cat sitter. I got her through an agency down here. She comes for 30 minutes a day, feeds Chloe, brushes her and plays with her. The place I use is $18 a day and then I tipped the girl $20...you can pay extra for 2 visits/day. It came to about $150...but was totally worth it. I came home to a happy cat, a little clingy as usually and vocal but that's to be expected.

Well what you would do is have them come over for a meet and greet and explain the situation with Pokey and what you would like for them to do. I also follow up with a note as a reminder of what's need to care for Chloe. You can also grant them permission to adminster medication and take them to the vet if necessary.

I just googled cat sitter in Atlanta and tons of agencies came up. I looked for ones that were reputable and licensed and so it went...
