What do you think?
My friend is having her third baby and she expects to have a shower. So, she is getting one. I think this is ridiculous. She had a shower for both of her previous children. Her daughter is going on 4 years old.
She registered for a lot of big-ticket items and I just feel that she should have that stuff from her daugher. When she had her daughter, she got all new stuff also. Keep in mind, she was planning on having more children, so it is not a surprise.
My question is: What do you think of people having a baby shower for their third child? Also, should they be registering for big ticket items such as strollers, high chairs, cribs, etc.

Re: What do you think?
I guess it depends on the situation. I threw a baby shower for a friend of mine for her 2nd baby, but it was because they were 7 years apart, and she didn't plan on having more kids at the time. Do you know what kind of condition the strollers were in from the previous child? It's hard to say without knowing the situation.

Re: What do you think?
Unless there is a large gap in the ages, (5 years or more?) I don't see a reason for a 2nd or especially a third shower. A "sprinkle" would be fine... but to register for big ticket items again... not very cool.
How old is her oldest - is it the 4 yr old?

Re: What do you think?
Personally, I think it's a bit greedy. I know someone who had a 2nd shower. The age difference is a year and a half. One is a boy, the other a girl. I was a little put off by it but went with it which is what I think people do. So I just bought boy clothing, not new things. Yes, I know they needed another car seat, a double stroller and high chair, etc, but I wouldn't expect other people to buy it for me, imo.

I agree with you totally. Her oldest is 8, then the second is going on 4. I'm not saying she should use the stuff that she used for the 8 year old, that's a little outdated. But she just got all new stuff for the second child. I thought I was being unreasonable, so it's nice to know others feel the same as me.
Also, in regards to the "sprinkle" that is exactly what I was thinking. Plus family and close friends are going to give you something regardless of whether you are having a shower or not.
I am also annoyed that she expected it!

I really can't see any reason to have three full fledged baby showers.

Re: What do you think?
i just say "to each their own", when it comes to things like that. even though i would never have a shower for my third baby, infact i never had a shower for my second baby, doesnt make it wrong for someone else. remember even though she registered for those high ticket items. you dont have to feel obligated to buy them. a nice new outfit for the lil baby is good enough. and im sure will be greatly appreciated. jmo.

Re: What do you think?
I didn't grow up in a culture where new moms have showers so maybe I'm not the right one to answer this but I don't get what the big deal is. For each future baby I have, I will register for what ever I need. Whether that be a new stroller or even a new bedroom set. It is like saying someone about someone else who is getting married for the 2nd time (or after living with their future spouse) that they should not have a bridal shower. Besides, doesn't someone generally throw YOU a shower (rather than the new mom throwing one for herself)? That is almost like putting a wedding registry on a wedding invitation or writing, cash only please She can have whatever she wants. Doen't mean you have to buy her the "big ticket" items!

Re: What do you think?
I didnt even realize people had showers after their first kid, I wouldnt do that myself regardless of how far apart my kids are.
Anyway I agree w/ some of the others, dont feel like you have to buy something big off her registry, just get the baby an outfit or something.

Re: What do you think?
But I think what is bothering some of us is that sometimes, these showers are EXPECTED. With the person I knew, she KNEW about it. And her husband and mother were throwing it for her. Personally, I think that's kind of tacky.

Ditto! But then again,I do not really agree with baby showers..where does it end? In my culture, you bring a gift to the house like the week or so following the birth of the baby, its always a substantial gift..does that mean I have to give a gift at the shower & then when I first visit? If no, I'd feel akward not having anything to bring.

It is not the fact that she registered. It is the fac that she EXPECTED this shower. So, the person throwing it felt obligated to give it to her. Also, if she just had a child 3 years ago, yes, I do think it is wrong that she expects people to get her all new stuff. She should have saved the stuff from her daughter because she knew she was having more children. Someone who gets married a second time doesn't generally know the first time around that they will be getting married again. Also, she is just making ends meet, which is more of a reason to save old stuff.
