RE Help for women with weight issues
Hi, I am new but not new to TTC. I am looking for anyone's experience with a "weight friendly" RE on the Island. I have PCOS and despite a recent weight loss our current RE is starting to be hesitant about continuing treatment. We have only done 2 injectible cycles and I don't feel that is enough to say this won't/can't happen. TIA and best of luck to all you ladies here!!

I was overweight and successful on my first IVF with RMANY. My Dr was Dr Ruman. Actually no one has ever said anything about my weight in my journey. I did have bad tubes(not caused by weight so maybe that is why..) My fsh was 14.9
I will say if your Dr puts roadblocks in front of you to find a new one. there are plenty of overweight ladies who have been successful with IVF.

Re: RE Help for women with weight issues
I am overweight too. My first IVF cycle was a BFN, I asked to be put on Metformin from the get-go and was denied bc I technically wasn't insulin resistant. 2nd cycle, I was put on the Met for 3 months and have lost about 10 lbs. Small but significant to someone who could barely lose an ounce. And with the Met more of my eggs fertilized than last time.

Re: RE Help for women with weight issues
I agree with melijane... if the RE is reluctant to work with you because of your weight, then I would find a new one.
I was overweight when starting my IF journey. While my RE did comment on my weight and said it would be in my best interest to lose some, he never once said it would inhibit my ability to get pregnant via IF treatments. I've had 2 IVF cycles, BFP with both of them (miscarried the first one, almost 29 weeks pregnant now).

Re: RE Help for women with weight issues
I am overweight and I go to LI-IVF - Dr. Droesch. She never commented on my weight but I did bring it up after my last failed cycle. She said that while my weight probalby wasn't the reason for my failed cycle, loosing weight never hurts. I know she also did things during my cycle because of my weight, such as have me do my shots IM but it was never discussed.
If you don't feel comfortable with your RE, go for a second opinion. Ultimatley though, even if the RE doesn't say anything about it, it is a factor. Dr. Droesch suggested I loose 10% of my body weight. Every little bit helps.

Re: RE Help for women with weight issues
Thank you all. Funny thing is, we're not even interested in IVF, only IUI's so I really don't know where this all came from. I appreciate the info and so happy to hear about all your great news. It gives me hope!!

Re: RE Help for women with weight issues
I was over weight during treatment with a RE (and still am). I was well aware of the fact that being over weight is bad for fertility. I went to LI IVF and no one ever said anything to me during treatment about my weight. With that said, I did make a conscious effort to lose weight when TTC.

I have and continue to put forth all my best efforts to lose weight, and have lost 30 pounds, no easy feat with PCOS! I am well aware of the weight/fertility connection but also know several overweight women with no fertility issues and lots of normal weight women with fertility issues. I just want an RE that will work with me and not be so concerned about stats and all that. We all know miracles happen everyday!! Thanks for your suggestion about LIIVF!!

Re: RE Help for women with weight issues
I am overweight. My doctor SUGGESTED I lose weight. He did not say he would not let me go ahead with the procedures if I didn't though. He also never said that I did not have a fair shot at success just like anyone else.
It's obviously better to not be overweight in general. I took his advice and lost 45 pounds.

Re: RE Help for women with weight issues
I am overweight and I go to Li-IVF, Dr. Brenner. He has never mentioned my weight to me. I did have 2 cancelled cycles due to lack of response to the meds, but my weight has never been brought up.
