Re: For those who are Not TTC yet...
I am actually really scared to have kids and be pregnant. I like kids, and always envisioned myself having kids.. But, I am NO WHERE near ready. I am going to be 31 in 5 months-- so, I am not getting any younger.. but, I really feel like you need to be absolutely ready to have kids-- and be ready to not be selfish anymore and put your kids above everything, which I know comes naturally somewhat-- but still you have to really want it. There is too much I was see, do and accomplish-- so, when the time is right I will know. I am sure it will be within 5 years (even though I answered 3+ in the poll).

You have brought up a point that DH and I talk about. I grew up being overly responsible and never really spoiled myself. Now, I've started to do that and I'm enjoying it. I buy clothing and don't feel guilty which was always how I felt. I know that when you have a baby, you can't be selfish anymore and you can't spoil yourself. I want a little more time doing those things. That shows me that I am not ready to be a parent but it also shows me that I will be a good parent for recognizing that.

Well, I didn't answer the poll, obviously because I AM preggers, however, i'll tell you that we were NOT TTC when I got pregnant, so I wouldn't get too used to your timelines

We're not sure if we even want any children yet. Right now, we're concentrating on saving for a house, taking some more vacations, etc.

Re: For those who are Not TTC yet...
Well i am preggers but i'll answer...
We were 28 when we got married. We waited a little over a year. We will both be 30 when it happens. I probably would of waited a little longer, but I am the youngest of my family and they all have kids and i wanted my kids to have their cousins close in age.
There is so much truth in the line "you will never think you are completely ready to have children". When we finally agreed to start we both still had reservations, but now that we are i would not change anything in the world!

Ladies, I have a nine yr old (I'll be 33 in May) & currently TTC...so I didn't answer the pole..but I just wanted to assure you all that- there is life after a baby Sure its very hard in the beginning because you're overwhelmed by this little person & all that comes with it..but I promise,it gets easier. You start saying "OMG,how did I even live WITHOUT him/her before?" Don't fret about spoiling yourself, you'll still do it (as I do) or better yet..your DH will. You'll buy yourself little or even big things because you are an adult, work for it & simply want it (whatever IT may be) I have not been deprieved of a high-end bag,spa days, trips or dinners out with my DH since my son was born. Also, when it comes to travel..you'll get away You'll make sure of it! or.. you can take your child with you..DS is on his 3rd passport!
I just wanted to assure you all that its not as scarey as some of you have said..its just different..but in a good way. You'll be amazed at yourself at all you can do,and whats more, you'll be amazed at the unexpressable amount of love you will feel.
BTW: I was on BCP when I got preggo

Re: For those who are Not TTC yet...
Wow, Andri, your son is on his 3rd passport!! that's amazing!
Probably in about 2 years for us. I'm so ready right now, but we JUST bought an apartment, and it only has one bedroom. Plus, I don't want to have a baby here in the UK.
Funny, though, DH and I talked about it and if we won the lottery, we'd try after doing a little traveling. Money changes everything!

He had his first before age 1 and they are only good for 5 years when you are a minor (10 yrs for adults)..the 2nd one he filled every page. We go to Croatia every year so we usually stop in Germany,England, Amsterdam..just passing through customs back/forth fills a few pages...then 2X's a year to Aruba(timeshare)Bahamas, plus I've taken him on most business trips with me..also my parents travel a lot & take him on a trip with them at least 3 times a year...whenever theres a break from school.
Sorry to get off the top,but if a 9 yr old can travel...so could mommies & daddies.

dont appologize at all!! I really appreciate your insight!!
Thats the one thing i've never been hesitatnt about-- holding back on having kids because i wanted to travel. Granted, its easier to just get up and go without them, but i dont think of it as the impossible dream once you have them. My DH on the other hand--- he's form a differnt mindset

I'd like to try for a "second honeymoon baby" in June/July... not sure if I can convince DH yet... I think he is ready other than he is worried about money/space.... But as soon as he's ready I'm ready!!

I think 1 1/2 years from now would be a good time finacially for us, but I would love to have a baby now. Also, I am 28 and will be 30 in 1 1/2 years and I would like to be preggers just before I am 30.
