Plan it or play it by ear?
What's your school of thought when it comes to all things IF?
Are you more of planner? Or someone who plays it by ear?
I am definitely a planner by nature - and feel like we should have every possible "what if" situation planned out.
For example: How many injectable + IUI cycles will we do before moving onto IVF? How would we handle having high-order multiples? Knowing the process, how soon after having #1 will we have #s 2 and 3? ETC...
I think maybe I just try to prepare for the worst, while hoping for the best - if that makes sense.
What about you? Have you tried to figure out what you'd do given certain scenarios? Or do you plan on just playing it by ear?

Re: Plan it or play it by ear?
I've done as many cycles of IUI as the doctor will let me. This was my 4th and last one. I have my IVF consult 11/13 and I will do 3 if I have to, that's as many as my insurance will pay for. But one of them will be successful! I am confident!
And I've learned in my IF journey, you can plan all you like, but whatever happens, just happens. There is too much you can't control, you have to roll with it. Some days will down right suck and some will be good. Be as flexible as possible, it's my best advice.

Re: Plan it or play it by ear?
I am definitely a "planner" and am always going over the "what if" scenarios in my head. I just feel like I need to prepare myself for the worst. Because my insurance recently changed (for the better!), I am giving the whole how many IUIs before IVF a lot more thought, even though I am still a ways to go!

Perfectly said!
My RE pretty much laid it out on the table for his. He said, 3 IUI/Clomid cycles, then maybe 2 injectible IUI cycles. However, we found out the first month with the RE we were dealing with MF too and that all the IUI's in the world were going to do the trick. So, onto IVF it was. (we did 2 IUI/clomid cycles with the RE, as not to waste a month since they didn't do any IVF protocols in December).

I definitely agree!
I am very flexible..
I probably worded the OP wrong. I guess I meant more of that I try to imagine every possible scenario - whether good or bad. For example, we're starting IUI with injectbales - so I'm imagining the different related scenarios. Would we convert to IVF if I ended up producing too many eggs? How would we handle multiples?
I guess more of just thinking of what could happen and trying to mentally prepare for it.

Re: Plan it or play it by ear?
I've def been thinking about and trying to learn more about all the techniques used. DH and I have talked some of them over and even talked about adoption if that's what we're left with, but he doesn't want to adopt whereas I have no problem with adopting. I think if i came down to it, he would change his mind. I guess I first have to find out what's causing my issues before I jump to so many scenarios. Can't wait for my RE aptmt!

Re: Plan it or play it by ear?
I'm a bigtime planner, but learned long ago at this point that I can't plan this IF journey. Its got too many twists and turns...
