Weight Gain
Is it common to gain weight after going off of BC? I've been a Weight Watchers girl for almost two years and shed over 35 lbs in the process. I've been the same weight for over a year, but since going off of BC I've gained 5 lbs and I keep gaining. Nothing has changed in terms of my diet. Actually, I've been more strict with my points etc. since the weight gain, and yet I still keep gaining. Any ladies out there with the same problem?

Re: Weight Gain
I'm not sure about this one. I had the opposite happen, when I started BC I gained and when I came off if it I lost. I'm sorry I'm not much help.

Re: Weight Gain
while I didn't have the same problem, I just wanted to chime in and say that this may be your body's way of dealing with the change in hormones.
If you continue to gain, regardless of your points (and i see that you are being strict, that's GREAT), i honestly would get in touch with your doctor. There is always a chance the BCP was masking a problem with your thyroid or something else...ya know??

Re: Weight Gain
Interesting. I never thought of that. I've always had problems keeping weight off but luckily I've always been very active (long distance running be one of my many activities). I'm 5'6" and when I was in high school/college I always hovered around 130-135 (due to diet and exercise). When I went on Weight Watchers was 165 and started maintenance at 131. I maintained 135 for quite a while but ever since going off of BC I've gotten up to 143 and it just keeps climbing. I still run, do weight training, and watch what I eat, but if this continues I will definitely make an appointment with my doctor.

Re: Weight Gain
i could be 100% wrong, it could just be your hormones balancing, but based on what you are saying - it sounds 'off to me'...and in saying that i don't mean you are fibbing...it just seems that there may be another underlying issue. I am with you on the weight issues - HARD CORE...so it would alarm me if all of a sudden everything that was working just fine, stopped...ya know??
OR - and now is when you roll your eyes - go ahead...i'll wait.....
is there any chance that you are pregnant?

Re: Weight Gain
That thought is always in the back of my mind. If I'm not pregnant (and I haven't tested yet) I should be getting my period today/tomorrow. If I don't get it by then I'll probably test.

Re: Weight Gain
This might be silly, but certain BCP have diuretics in them, maybe you're retaining water you weren't normally retaining while on BCP? Just a thought.
I hope this is just your body adjusting.

Re: Weight Gain
I was on Yasmin and I just Googled it. Their website claims to help prevent pre-period bloating and other PMS symptoms. This theory is quite possible.

Re: Weight Gain
I gained a few pounds after going off the pill but nothing out of control. I think everyones reaction to going off the pill is different because your hormones are in such a flux.

Re: Weight Gain
If it continues and you have trouble conceiving, please check with your doctor regarding possibly having PCOS. I had this for YEARS and couldn't figure out why I wasn't conceiving and had gained 30 lbs in 3 years.

I really don't have the symptoms for PCOS. Before the pill (which I was on for four years) I was so regular you could have used me for your own personal date book. My period not only came on the same day every month but also at the same time. Not only that, my period was always 3 days of heavy flow, the following 2 days of light and then spotting for the last 2. This was the same on the pill except my cycle was shorter as well as the number of days I had my period. This is definitely one area I've never had complaints with.

Re: Weight Gain
I just got off of Yasmin too and have notcied weight gain. I wasn't really sure what to attribute it to, but maybe it's the pill. I was actually thinking I would lose weight because I went off the pill right before returning to work (as a dance teacher) but not only have I not lost, I thikn I've put on about 2-3 lbs.

Same thing with me. I was hoping being off of the pill would make it easier to stay thin, apparently not.

Re: Weight Gain
I came off the pill in the end of July and since then, I too have noticed that I;ve been gaining weight. Its all in the stomach though, almost like water weight. I've cut back on what I'm eating and drinking, and yet I'm still gaining weight...

My weight has been doing the same thing since I discontinued BCP. I think everyone reacts differently.
