Ok, is this weird or what?
A friend of mine from Virginia left a voicemail message for me, asking if she could bring her boyfriend to my baby shower 
First of all, was he invited? NO. Secondly, WHY would she think a guy would be invited to an all female baby shower?
And it's not like she just wants some company in the car for the drive up to NY; my other friend is driving up with her.....

I would call her back and say I'm so sorry but I wouldn't want your boyfriend to feel uncomfortable... it is going to be all women and it will be very strange. Tell her that even your DH will not be there.

I just sent her a text that men don't go to baby showers and she's says that's not true. Ok, in MY experience I've never seen a man at a baby shower, except for the DH, so maybe she doesn't know.
I'll see what she says......
But still, why would you invite someone to a friend's baby shower who's a total stranger??? AND, my mom invited her and my other friend to stay at her house, so why would she think it's ok for her boyfriend to stay there too? My mom would flip!!!!

Do they do it differently in VA? I've heard of people having their DH stay for the shower, but not for men to be invited. I would just tell her that only women are invited. He can go somewhere else during the shower if she brings him along. I would think he would be out of place anyway. WHY would he want to stay if he knew he would be the only guy???

I'd never been to a baby shower in Virginia, so I don't know. But in most ways the D.C. metro area is like New York, so I doubt men are invited to showers, unless it's a Jack and Jill (which I know they did in Virginia).
I just also thought it was pretty ballsy that she would ask to bring someone who was a total stranger to my shower that my mother is paying for. It's not like it's some party that I'M throwing; that would be different.......she did the same thing with my wedding rehearsal dinner....

I would also ask her where she planned on her boyfriend staying.....since she is supposed to stay at your mom's house, I wouldn't want your mom to be put in an ackward situation of this girl showing up with a guy and expecting him to stay with your mom.

I've heard of baby showers were men attend but it specifically said on the invitation that men were invited. It was funny cuz DH and I attended a baby shower where men were invited and they had a diapering contest for the men. It was hillarious!
Unless it's specified on the invitation Men are generally not invited to baby showers, Unless it's the fater of the baby but even they don't stick around for the whole thing.
The men only come in at the end to pick up the gifts...LOL

I wonder why she wants to bring him I have heard of showers (Jack and Jill) with men invited and that is fine but if your mom just invited her that is odd...

they probably do it differently in virginia. I threw a baby shower for my friend and her DH is dominican, boy was that different from any shower I have ever been to! It was from like 7-12am, men, women and children, DJ, dancing etc. It was a blast! So different strokes for different folks, just let her know that there arent any men going.
