Re: Jewish Girls..

We don't know what we're having, but I assume I'll use a variation of the Hebrew names of two of my great-grandparents. Our family also typically uses the first letter of their first names for the baby's English name, but since we've had such a hard time agreeing upon names with those letters, I'm not sure what we're going to do.

Here is a great site to see what the names will look like in Hebrew:

I love that, I can actually read and write hebrew, as well as my DH, his father is Israeli....so I love seeing our daughters name in Hebrew...actually I should say the first "hebrew" name we're using for her is his grandmothers and its yiddish...
As for misspelling, it happens often...my parents got married in Hungary and they're ketubah is crazy, but its written to the letter, when we gave it to our rabbi for our wedding, he was floored and it was even hard for him to decipher, bc a lot of it was written in more of a yiddish dialect rather than Hebrew....I was frightened that the Rabbi wouldn't get the info correct on ours, but my grandfather inspected the draft with a fine tooth comb!

Re: Jewish Girls..

Sorry to crash... we're not pg yet, but we spoke to our Rabbi about this right before our wedding.

The idea of a Hebrew name is a custom instituted in the diaspora; there are no hard and fast rules. She said they don't have to match a person's English name at all. Most people typically pass down the exact Hebrew name of the deceased. Parents may want to alter the name to make it feminine or masculine. Others will pick a name with the same first initial. DH and I were very reassured by this b/c we want to name our children after our grandmothers that died recently.... but their names were Harriette and Beulah!
