National Zoo
Has anyone been there lately?
We are going to Washington DC next week and were thinking of taking the kids there. Any thoughts or comments on it?

Re: National Zoo
It's a disappointment if you're used to the Bronx zoo. There is not that many animals there. The only draw is the pandas - everything else you can see at the Bronx zoo, and so much better.
We stayed with the pandas for a half hour, walked around for another 15 minutes and left.
The pandas are worth it though, I love them. I have a stuffed one now, panda wallpaper, and I watch them on their

ITA - DH and I went a couple of years ago - not long after Tai Shan was unveilled to the public. We saw the pandas, walkeda round a little and then left.
We did enjoy watching the hippos - one was putting on a little show drinking from a hose.

Re: National Zoo
it is definitely not the bronx zoo but we really liked it... and hell, it is free. i liked that it wasn't too big, we LOVED seeing the pandas (they have red ones too!) and overall - it was a nice afternoon. it is in a cute area that is fun to walk through and i think it is definitely something that needs to be seen when visiting DC.

I agree with this. When we went -we didn't realize like the museums it was free, we kept asking did we go in the wrong way ?? we didn't pay??
