Prenatal Vitamins.. need advice about mine..
ok , for some reason it had me thinking..
i take a prenatal called ... Prefera-OB.. its a VERY small pill because i cant swallow bigger ones..
SO, when i was seeing my OB, he gave me samples and i picked that one.. now i started taking them AFTER i already knew i was PG.. so while trying i NEVER was on them.
now fast forward to seeing my new doctor.. i asked him for a new prescription like a month ago.. and he never heard of it.. i even had to spell it out for him.. so this just raised a flag up.. and i forgot to mention that CVS did not even had these, and had to order them.. it took a while too might i add..
So now i am just wondering if these pills are giving me problems.. could this happen? besides the common .. constipation.. etc..
i think i am going to take regular flinstone vitamins just for a month and see what happens.... do you think its ok?? or am i being ridiculous

i'd ask your doctor when you see him....i don't think that many pre-natal vitamins could cause problems....(other than the norm)...
I'd suggest the Target ones - but they are large...
If you are going to do flintstone vitamins - make sure you get a folic acid supplement as well. Those pills are small (Dave takes them, for older men, it helps prevent birth defects - he takes 2 a night with his vitamin)...

Re: Prenatal Vitamins.. need advice about mine..
I think it's fine. a regular multivitamin has folic acid. which I have been taking. alot of foods have folic acid, my morning cereal has 100% folic acid as well.
I was on prenatals, but they were giving me a stomach ache/heartburn and I thought it was silly to suffer since I wasn't prego.
My prior GYN didn't recommend taking prenatal when TTC, just a multivitamin.
just my opinion....

I have a VERY VERY sensitive stomach (IBS, ulcers, etc.) and the Target prenatals don't bother me. I take them at night, with dinner - so they aren't in my stomach, all empty...that made a HUGE difference in the amount of discomfort...
Every doctor i've seen (unfortunately, a lot) have told me that it's smart to take pre-natals prior to getting pregnant.

Re: Prenatal Vitamins.. need advice about mine..
Hi De..... prenatals should not have anythign to do with fertility issues. You want to be on a good multiviatamin or prenatla before TTC to build up folic acid stores in your body because they are cruicial in the first 8 weeks of fetal development. You need to take something that contains at least 800 mcg of folic acid. So you could take a regular vitamin and supplement with extra folic acid.
I've been on the target brand and my midwife said that was fine.
It is important you take them because prior pregnancys and some foods actually DEPLETE folic acid stores from your body so youreally want to build them up to help a future growing embryo.
Here is some information regarding the importance of folic acid suring early fetal development from the march of dimes. They recomend 400 mcg of folic acid but recently the recomended dosage has increased to 800 mcg. HTH

Re: Prenatal Vitamins.. need advice about mine..
Currently I am taking a multi-vitamin (capsules which is easier on my tummy), B6, extra iron, extra folic acid, and vitex. As well I drink raspberry tea when I can. Taking all those vitamins can be hard to swallow but I am willing to do all that I can..The things we do in TTC..

I do the same--Flintstone gummy with 400mcg folic acid. My doctor suggested it but also doesn't feel it is necessary to take prenatals before getting PG.
