This may be a dumb question....
can you get a positive reading on an OPK, but not actually release an egg? I have been concerned that I am not ovulating, but got a positive test this cycle...

In short - YES.
Although I don't think it's very common.
OPKs detect a surge in LH which usually comes before ovulation - however, for various factors... ovulation can be delayed or not happen at all.
If you're getting +OPKs and do not have PCOS or anything else that would interfere, it's likely that you are ovulating.
Your best best would be temping - which is a better way to know if you are ovulating.

that is not a dumb question.... and I wish I could answer you but I don't have much knowledge on OPK's I have been asking questions too...
But when did you get your +OPK? What day.
I do know that you O within 12-36 hours after getting a +OPK

Yes, especially if you have PCOS as you have elevated levels of LH. It can cause false positives on OPKs which is why OPKs never worked for me.
