A couple of questions...
It looks like my first IUI failed (10 dpo and still BFN and no pregnancy symptoms this month). Besides blocked tubes and wrong tiiming, why would an IUI fail?
We are dealing with incompatible sperm and CM.
How many IUIs does one have before you move on to IVF?
Also, can you do IVF if you have blocked tubes?
This is my 7th unsuccessful month (6 natural, 1 IUI) and I am really in a funk about it.

Re: A couple of questions...
Don't know much about IUIs but I will probably be having one soon.
But did they do an HSG on you?

Re: A couple of questions...
No HSG. Dr. Brenner recommended that I go straight to IUI if my post-coital was abnormal (which it was). If it was normal, then I would do a HSG. I would like to avoid it if possible.

Re: A couple of questions...
I only asked about the HSG because I know some people have said that it unblocks them. But you should always listen to your doctor.

Re: A couple of questions...
I did 5 IUIs back to back before moving on to IVF. They fail for the same reasons that well-timed intercourse and IVFs fail...could be a million things.
One thing I learned through this journey is that there are too many variables in every single step of the way to scrutinize and drive myself nuts. The cycles that work just work. You could have a perfect egg, a perfect sperm, perfect levels of hormones, perfect lining, etc. and it'll end up being a failed cycle. On the other hand, the opposite happens just as much. There could be lots of things not quite perfect in a cycle which could result in a successful pregnancy.
I hope that each cycle works, but don't expect it to. This is how I deal with it.

Stated perfectly.... There are sooooo many variables it's not even funny. I have done 12 IVF transfers and only got pregnant once...of course my age is a factor, but the point is that you just have no idea if it's going to work or not.
I would ask about the HSG though. I know you don't want to do it, but if you are doing IUI's and your tubes are blocked you are pretty much wasting your time. I know, I did it for over a year.

Re: A couple of questions...
I would inquire about the HSG i am going for one on Tuesday and while I am nervous I still want to make sure everything is OK in there. If I have a blockage the IUI wont work. They also say that the HSG make you more fertile for the 3 months following b/c it sort of cleans everything out.

Re: A couple of questions...
Thanks...
Does anyone know if you need clean tubes for IVF to work? Or does IVF bypass that?

Re: A couple of questions...
IVF bypasses the tubes, but is very invasive in other ways. You have to give yourself injections for at least 7 days, you have surgery for the retrieval and then have to have a transfer which is like an IUI.
I would have the HSG first and see if your tubes are clear. Then you can proceed with the IUI's for a while before moving onto IVF.

Re: A couple of questions...
I just wanted to add that I just don't get why some doctors would waste someones time with an IUI by not checking to see if the tubes/uterus are clear first. I notice a lot of RE's do this. And sometimes the HSG unblocks your tubes, like it did with my right one.

Re: A couple of questions...
it's something you should discuss with your RE depending on your situation. We will do 2 maybe 3 more IUI w/clomid depending on if the clomid starts thinning out my lining and then go to IVF. My RE does not want to do injectable with IUI b/c if there aretoo many eggs the IUi won't be done.
