For those who have switched REs
While trying to maintain positive I am also attempint to prepare myself for BFN to 2nd IVF on Monday. DH and I discussed it and we are both in agreement that if it didnt work this time we would go by the three strikes and you're out rule. BUT we also want to get a second opinion. My questions are:
1. Who do you ask at the office for a copy of your chart? 2. How long does it take to get your chart? 3. How did you go about setting up appointments with other doctors? Do you tell them up front when setting up the appointment that you are looking for a second opinon? 4. Do you let your current RE know that you're looking else where and that "this is their last chance?" 5. 5. Is there anything else I should be aware of?

Re: For those who have switched REs
OK, I have switched twice (I hate to be an expert in this). First you call your current RE's front desk and tell them you want a copy of your records. They'll put you in touch with the right group. It takes about 2 wks (sometimes longer, depends on your RE's office). In the meantime, call the RE you want to consult with and make an appointment. It will probably take a few weeks to get an appointment anyway. My newest RE wanted my records b/f I had the appointment, which made so much sense. And I had to do a CD3 b/w before also. They are all different. The question is, who are you going to see for 2nd opinion?
I never tell my former RE that I am leaving. Even the last one that I liked so much. Who knows I could be back for DE one day. They are used to people leaving.

Re: For those who have switched REs
I contacted my previous RE's office for my records and they transferred me to the records department. It was fairly quick and easy but they did charge me $35 to have the records sent to me. They said they would do it free of charge if it was going to another doctor. Strange, but I needed the records so I paid. I had two REs in mind so I made appts. with both of them. The one I am seeing now took two months to get an appt. with. I first saw him in July and I'm still in the process of test results and getting everything updated so we can start our next IVF cycle. I never told my previous RE I was leaving, totally not necessary. My new RE has found things in both myself and my DH that the previous one never even looked for. I am so glad we switched, it seems like it will be worth the wait and work involved.

Re: For those who have switched REs
When I left my first RE, I told them I was getting other opinions and needed copies of my records. I then went to two different RE's - hated one, liked the other and went to him. When I didn't get PG with him after eight months. I told them at the front desk that I wanted copies of my records. I didn't give a reason. I made appointments with three other RE's. I never told my RE I was getting other opinions. All three RE's basically agreed with the protocol I was on, one had some suggestions regarding cervical issues. I went back to my RE with the suggestions and he agreed and followed through. I got PG two months later.

Re: For those who have switched REs
After my first IVF cycle failed my RE suggested I get another opinion which I would have done anyway. I just sent my RE a fax authorizing them to release my records to the other RE. I went for the consult and decided to switch but was planning on switching anyway b/c I was very unhappy with how my cycle went. The new RE found two new issues which I know my old RE would have never bothered to test for. I think it's always a good idea to get a second opinion.
