She is almost 9 months old. We have switched her to sippy cups...no problem. She has this issue about it...she thinks that we are making her grow up too fast. She just called me to tell me one of her younger friends thinks it's "different" that we have started Maddie on sippy cups already...ugh!!!!!! IMO (and she is MY child), she was and is completely ready for them. Why is my Mom fighting me on this? Am I wrong??

Maybe she wants you to have another baby lol

My kids started on sippies at 5-6 months.

Don't let her get to you. Chat Icon

When people do that to me I just yes them to death and then do what I want. I have found this to be the best solution instead of letting people get me worked up over stupid stuff

DD was drinking from straw cups as soon as she was crawling and realized that DS's cups of juice tasted good! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon She was much younger than 9 months.

My mom feels the same.....esp since our(sis too) ped has asked us to start this around the same time. They want the bottle gone by a yr.

I think its just something they arent used to seeing since way back when docs werent pushing sippy cups or even had them around.

She will realize its good for her esp at this age to start....but like u said its your child and you know best.

We have been offering dd a sippy sice 6 months, she did not start using it until 9 months

now, we are transitioning her to milk, she only gets one bottle of formula and tonight is the last night for that

shwe drinks her milk, water and watered down juice all from the sippy cup

As of Tomorrow, no more bottles for us Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I started DD on sippy cups at 7 months old. It's easier to do it when they are young before they get too attached to their bottle.

Side note, my Grammy told me to stop teaching DD body parts because she was too young. Because at 11 months old she would point to her eyes, nose, mouth and belly.... wwwwwwww...tttttttttt......ffffffff????

Isn't DC's development a good thing????

don't give it a thought!
i am jealous actually! i still BF but once i stop want to go to sippy's instead of bottle. IMO you did the right thing and are lucky your DD took to it so well. at some point she was going to have to stop the bottle so you did it at the right time!

She's not the one who is going to have to fight to get the bottle away from her if you let her go too long. I would just let her get it out and then do what you want anyway. Chat Icon

You aren't wonrg at all. She is YOUR child, and YOU decide what is best for her.

And 9 months is not too early to start on sippy cups in my opinion. Connor is 9 months also, and we have been trying with him for 2 months now, although he just started using them regularly.

My mom made a few comments as well when I switched to sippy cups at 12mths. I am not sure about you mom but my mom thinks we follow the same rule of thumb as they did 30yrs ago

Just ignore her and keep doing the right thing. It's great that Maddie has taken to the sippy cup so easily. I think your mom is just sad that her grandbaby's growing up. She'll get over it eventually.
It's annoying to listen to her badger you though. Chat Icon

Why are our parents so vocal about the dumbest things? My MIL is the exact opposite. From the moment Maddie started walking (at 10mths) she's been asking me when and I going to start potty training her.Chat Icon

i don't think you're wrong at all. Especially if she is showing a natural tendancy to adapt to it.
