He gets his shots in the AM

Chat Icon Frankie will be getting his first set of vaccinations tomorrow. I hope it doesn't hurt him or make him cry. I hate to see him cry in pain. DH has been going crazy all evening, not wanting him to go. He is very concerned over these vaccines r/t studies and articals linking them to Autism. I was just on the website -FDA.org looking some things up in regards to Thimerisal. My doctor says that in her office, all the vaccines are Free of that. I just hope she is being honest. DH is coming with us in the morning and he says he is going to ask to see the vial first, before she injects anything into Frankie. Do you think he is over reacting? I mean I am scared, but I know it is the right thing to do. When did agree though to only give him 2 of the 4 he is suppose to get tomorrow and go back in 1 month for the other 2. We will just be on a little different schedule than the norm. That made DH a little better about it all. Well wish us luck, I hope Frankie doesn't have to much of a reaction. I am giving him Tylenol before we leave and again later in the day. The doctor says that helps control any fever that may occur. Chat Icon

Shots are always harder on Mom and Dad than on the baby I've found... they cry for a minute and then forget about it pretty quick... If it makes you feel any better my kids are up to date on all their shots and we've never had any problems Chat Icon Chat Icon I always give my kids tylenol before shots for any discomfort too.

Re: He gets his shots in the AM

I delayed both my kids shots until they were both 4 months old. Made me feel better knowing they were a little bigger with more of my immunities. I still HATE getting them shots. If you get 2 today instead of the 4 your ped says he needsChat Icon you will still need to give him more next month if you want to keep him on "schedule". Just remember YOU decide which ones and when. If you dont think he should have any, don't give them to him until YOU think you and he are ready.

I just wanted to add that when Emma got her shots you would have thought we were killing her. Jeremy looks at the doc like W T F are you doing but never makes a face or cries. It's so weird how kids can be so different.

Yup! Jordan never cared about shots, he likes going to the Dr... Mallory cries as soon as we walk into the office and as soon as the Dr. walks out of the exam room she stops crying.. fakerChat Icon Chat Icon

Re: He gets his shots in the AM

I used to work in a pediatricians office and never understood how the parents would be upset when the child would get a shot. WELL- Ryan got his first shot last week and I almost cried- had tears in my eyes- but held back the sobbing. He WAILED and was fine about 1 minute later. It bothered me so much - I couldn't believe it!

Re: He gets his shots in the AM

Well, all went well today. He got 2 out of the 5 for today. He will go back in 1 month for the other 3. He took one in each leg and cried just for a few minutes. He has been sleeping most of the day.
No fever noted, just been giving him some tylenol like the doctor said.
He is 12 weeks today and weighing in at 14 lbs and 13 oz. He is 24 1/2 inches long.... he came in the 95% on the growth chart. Chat Icon

Katie got her first shots today too- dh took her. I don't think I would have handled it well! My Dr. also said the shots they use do not contain mercury.

I remember my DH making fun of me for being upset when I brought Joseph for his shots. The next time he needed them, I made DH bring him. He came home so upset - "They made me hold him down! He's going to hate me. He cried & looked at me!!!" I said "Yup - join the club!"

Glad it wasn't so bad for you!
