Re: NPR-- Thoughts?

If they are coming over, let them bring the food. I am sure they would probably prefer to so that they know their kids will eat what they bring.

I wouldn't feel obligated to make lunch for them Chat Icon

Re: NPR-- Thoughts?

I woud be honest and say you would prefer to go out. Staying in is easier for her because she has 2 children, but it is harder on you.

I don't think there is anything wrong with letting her know what you feel more comfortable with, you could blame it on the PG if you want (too tired, need to get out of the house etc.)

She said she'll bring lunch over...so let her do that....if it's just lunch for kids that she's bringing over then that's fine too, just order a pizza or something for you guys.

Re: NPR-- Thoughts?

If she is willing to bring lunch then I'm not sure i understand what the problem is. She's not asking you to prepare or buy anything..right? Having a child myself, I understand why she would say it's easier to stay in. When we get together with friends we almost always request to stay in and we offer to either bring food or pay for take out.

Re: NPR-- Thoughts?

honestly?

I have friends in manhattan and beyond, and whenever they come all the way out to port jeff to visit me, I cook them a virtual banquet.

similarly, if I trek out to them, they provide some wonderful noshies....

I always considered that part of the 'deal'. whomever travels gets treated like a very special guest at the others home.....

It sounds like when you trek all the way over to them, they don't give you any food or drink... which is sort of rude IMO.

Even if they're not the hospitable type, and don't provide a meal normally at meal time when you visit, if I were in your situation, just to maintain my personal standards, I would still cook something up for them....

Re: NPR-- Thoughts?

I don't know but if my friends were coming from Brooklyn to LI with 2 kids around lunchtime, I'd definitely want to be hospitable and provide lunch.

I mean even if they weren't coming DH and I would have to eat anyway right? So its just 'extra' for 2 adults and 1 kiddie...

PS: I'm not much of a cook really so I'd probably order something in, but it doesn't have to pricey, how about pizza and salad for everyone???

I agree with the PP and I'd order in.

Pizza and salad sounds good!
