I have been there before, its an ugly place. If your feeling this way I recommend finding a good therapist that you can talk to. It has been very helpful to me.

Now that I know what direction I will take and its a guaranteed one, I no longer feel that way, although still sometimes feel sad that I cant do it the "normal" way.

Are there special therapists who deal with these issues?

yes there are. I will see if I can find the company that refers.

At my old Job you called this company for referrals if you needed Mental health services and they had it broken down into very sub specialties and had about 4-5 therapists in my area who dealt with infertility. I never saw one, but my friend did and she said it helped.

also the RE's office may be able to recommend people.

I didnt see someone who specializes, didnt think it was realy necessary, any good therapist can deal with the feelings regardless of the reason. BUt alot of people prefer someone who knows more about it. Find someone who is right for youChat Icon

Re: Is anyone really depressed over IF?

I really recommend therapy - I'm in a much, MUCH better place now, and I've managed to put IF as much less priority in my mind and in my life, so I can focus on other things, instead of obsessing over it.

I've been seeing a therapist since January, and it really has made a world of difference, and mine doesn't specialize in IF at all. Chat Icon

I also recommend therapy. I was seeing a therapist for a long time prior to dealing with IF. I've dealt with alot of stuff in my life, but IF has by far been the most challenging.

Im sorry you're feeling like this and I hope speaking to a therapist will help you.

I just wanted to say that while IF is depressing, it doesn't mean you won't become a mother. It just means it may take you longer with more treatments or that you might follow a different path to get there but you'll get there.

best of luck to you!!!

Re: Is anyone really depressed over IF?

Some days I'm fine and other days I'm not. I find around AF I am not fine at all and the hormones really get to me. Then I get stronger. Therapy is a great idea. I haven't gone for this but have in the past and it really changed my life. I was thinking of going but honestly I just feel like having one more appointment is worse than going to therapy for me (mostly because i live way out east and I am tired of driving far for all appointments). I try to do yoga and acupuncture and it seems to help me stay strong and clear my mind.

Plus coming on here to vent helps me a lot as well.

Re: Is anyone really depressed over IF?

Yes, I have felt that way. I still do. But for the past few days, I have been trying to be positive and keep telling myself it will happen for me. I read it in a post last week, the power of positive thinking. And I feel a little better.

Re: Is anyone really depressed over IF?

I definately have my days. Like Beth-Ann said, I seem to have my meltdowns right when AF comes. I cry for hours on end & for me, it is a release. Lately i have been going through the same motions as you as "why" but then I realize that even though we can't have a family on our own, we will have a family. We started seeing our RE in May & I can say that these past 4 months have been tough. Many in our families comment that i am strong & I tell them that is my exterior front.

I have not tried therapy but I am starting to consider it just bc I have no one (except LIF) to turn to to really vent & someone that can understand. But for right now, I am holding out bc I can't take another appt. When I have my moments I either go for a walk or sit in my backyard & just zone out. I do feel that the crying does help me a lot & releases my tensions. I keep telling myself, until someone tells me I can't have my own children, I will hope & know that my day is somewhere on the horizon

I am here if you need to talk Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Is anyone really depressed over IF?

Depressed is not the word.

Every time I think I am at peace with it and I understand that this is what I have to do, my body will not let me relax and feel okay with it. I walk around with an intense feeling of anxiety no matter what. It stinks.

Therapy is not for me for the same reasons that someone else mentioned. I cannot have the stress of yet another appointment that I have to make. Also, I feel that the only person/people who could possibly understand are people who have actually been through it themselves.
