Yes, I would be mad.
They give/sell it to baby companies like Enfamil.

Re: Thoughts
I would be more than mad- I would be uncomfortable with that office. I would have a talk with the doctor and the office manager and explain to them that I am a patient in their office first and foremost, and not a product for sale.
I expect to be treated with respect, and sellign my name and due date is not treating me with respect. It is also going against the Patient's Bill of Rights confidentiality agreement. Sellign the fact that I am pregnant and my due date is in fact revealing my medical records.
If they don't apologize and vow to get off that list, I would consider switching offices. This is pretty serious to me.

Re: Thoughts
Just curious, how did the conversation come about? I'd be upset that my doctors office gave out my info. Did you get mail from these companies meaning your doctors also would have given your home address?

IMO, $250 worth of coupons is not much consolation. I'd be sooooo aggravated.

Re: Thoughts
Hold on a minute- from my understanding of the HIPPA law the doctors CANNOT even discuss your medical history with YOUR SPOUSE- soooooo why would they be selling your personal information to baby company's? I would consult a lawyer about this, I would get the copy of what you signed and see if there was an open clause allowing them to "sell" your information to companys that may sponsor any research they are doing. If there isnt I would SUE in a heartbeat! what is the purpose of the HIPPA law then? I know I could NOT discuss with patients their spouses visit what so ever or I was violating HIPPA and that included what they told me they had for breakfast too! thats how serious it is at least here in NY. good luck and look into this.

Re: Thoughts
Did you sign anything? You may have unknowingly agreed to release information. If not, then the hospital may have violated HIPAA. I'm not sure if your due date is considered protected health information. Since that information would be in your chart, it's probably protected. If you want to pursue this, I'd file a complaint instead of a lawsuit. There's information on how to file on the U.S. Department of Health & HUman Services website.
