I'm so upset right now....
Repost from FHF:
My Dad is 46....very young and extremely active. He is always building and fixing things around the house, riding his harley and going on trips. He has never hired anyone to do anything around the house, he knows how to do it all.
3 years ago he has some numbness in his face, but the doctors couldn't find anything.
Now for the past couple of months he has been numb in his arms and having really bad neck and spinal pain.
The doctor just diagnosed him with probable MS.
He has to go for a spinal tap to confirm it.
I'm having twins in November and he is so excited about it.
I feel like this is just the worst thing that could ever happen. He won't be able to deal with not being fully able to do everything and anything at his leisure.
Has anyone dealt with this with a family member?

My SIL has MS and it hasn't really effected her life much AT ALL so I hope the same is true for your dad!

First i want to give you hugs my mom is only 46 and she to was diagnosed with ms 2 years ago. She is doing well and it is very slow in progressing. This is her first grand child on the way as well. The fact that it is being caught early is good and im sure the doctors will get him on the right course of treatment. Hang in there and stay positive.

My husbands aunt has MS and has had it for a number of years and aside from some sligh shaking she is ok. my neighbor has it too and when she told me I was shocked. I hope your dad does as well with his treatment. I have a sick mother, I know how hard it is to have a sick parent

Oh I am so sorry to hear this  but as others have said, first things first sweetie, let the docs confirm the diagnosis and prepare a treatment plan, your dad sounds so active and vital, he can have many many years of only slight effects; I know its hard to bear but one thing at a time; and seriously your little twins are going to be an AWESOME inspiration for him to stick with his treatment. Hugs to you and Dad

A couple of years ago, we had a scare thinking that my fathers cancer had returned. I remember discussing it with my husband, and we both said that if it came back that it did return (which, thank god, it did not) that we were going to try for a baby. I knew my father would need something to help pull him through. Luckily, you are already pregnant. I would just keep on talking to him about the baby, maybe ask him to set up some of the baby stuff...maybe even ask him to build something for the baby...a toy box, some shelves, something.
I pray that this all turns out to be nothing

My mother has MS. She was diagnosed back in 2004, a few months before I got pregnant with my daughter. I know how hard it is.

My Mom is 70 and was diagnosed with MS at about 45. She has debilitated to the point of needing a wheelchair, but that has been over 25 years; also keep in mind that treatments for MS have improved tremendously in that time. MS is completely "livable" if that makes any sense. Even though my Mom is in a wheelchair, she still cooks, cleans, gardens, sews etc. I will be thinking of you and your Dad!!
