My unexpected visit to Labor & Delivery (long)
Well yesterday I was complaining about not hearing back from my doctor regarding a phantom pain but as "luck" would have it I was able to discover how quickly she responds in an emergency. I was about to get into the shower last night at about 9 o'clock when I discovered bright red blood on the tp when I wiped. I wiped again and there was more. It was not a huge amount but it was more than a spot so I called my doctor's service and had her on the phone with me in about 3 minutes! Because of the bleeding and the pain I have been experiencing she had me go into L&D at Lenox Hill to get checked out. Of course DH was out drinking with the guys so I had to call me Mom and Dad to come get me which they did and we made great time into the city. The staff at Lenox Hill L&D was wonderful. They hooked me up to a fetal monitor as soon as I arrived and I got to hear my little meatball as he continued to kick the monitor. They did an ultrasound and a pelvic exam and everything looks great. My cervix is high and closed, my fluid is perfect and there was no evidence of bleeding so after about 2 1/2 hours they sent me home and I had a follow up with my doctor this morning. She checked me out and we determined that the pain I am experiencing is from my intestines, colon, good stuff being squished up into my upper abdomen and the bleeding was not in fact vaginal bleeding but from our dreaded friend hemorrhoids which I did not even know that I had. Fun!!
All in all it was a good experience because I got to see how great my doc is and how great L&D is at Lenox Hill. But all things factored in I'd really rather wait to see them again until November!!

Re: My unexpected visit to Labor & Delivery (long)
I'm an idiot and forgot to mention the whole reason I was posting this. My doctor had a suggestion about how to tell where the bleeding is coming from. She said it's really hard to tell so if it happens again to use a small tampon for 20 minutes or so. That will tell you where the blood is coming from.
I would think anyone who has something like this would probably rather die than wait 20 minutes to see what is going on but now that I know what it COULD be (so embarrassing BTW) I'll def. try that trick.
Thanks so much for listening to my story!
