Melting Pot???
OK, so my birthday is coming up, and we're debating where to go...DH likes for me to tell him where to make reservations he's a romantic at heart Anyhoo, we are probably going to Max Brenner's in the city with my family one day but wanted a sort of local dinner on LI, and I suggested Melting Pot, bc how can I resist a pot of melted cheese... but here is my question, can we pregos have that, are all the meats and things fully cooked before actually dipping it in the fondue....I've been to artisinal in the city where everything was cooked, but for some reason I remember reading the menu at Melting Pot and thinking to myself I can't have that..and now I have no idea why I said that to myself..so any clarification would be wonderful!!!

Sorry to crash!
The meats at Melting Pot are not cooked. You cook them yourself in the broth that you choose...

Re: Melting Pot???
I went when I was like 8 weeks pregnant and the waitress said just to make sure to cook the meats fully and that all the cheeses were fully pasterized.

Re: Melting Pot???
You'd do just fine at The Melting Pot, so long as you cook the meats long enough (1 1/2 minutes by sea, 2 min by land--that's their motto)---yes, I'm an ex-Melting Pot employee. And a big fan!!!
Just be sure to cut and double check the chicken, pork, and meats before you bite. I think it's a GREAT place to celebrate a birthday.

Re: Melting Pot???
just another thought... if smells bother you, you might want to reconsider. Between the cheeses, oils and meats it is definitely not a place for someone that gets naseous from smells.

Re: Melting Pot???
Honestly, I would just order the cheese, salad and dessert and skip the meat part. That's what I've started doing after my first time when I was pretty grossed out from the boiled meat. It was way too much food as well with the meat.

That's actually a pretty good suggestion....but if you're a first-timer, the "Big night out" is the only way to go for a birthday celebration at The Melting Pot! You are allowed to cook any remaining food and bring it home with you, if you want.
Also, the key to keeping an appetite--is to eat just the apples and veges with the cheese and skip the bread! This is what I do....then I eat just half the salad---and the rest of the food is the perfect amount.
Good luck choosing! I think it's a great idea though (obviously).

Re: Melting Pot???
i am a huge melting pot fanatic, just was there last week, you can totally eat the meat, you just have to make sure you cook it through well enough, just like at home... you pick a boullion to boil it in, and for the cheese dish, we always get something XTRA spicy...mmmmmmmmm
i could go there once a week, i LOVE it i do however miss their martinis.. they are out of control..
hey, maybe we'll go there for lunch after attacking dennys?!?! lmfao
hehehe enjoy!! And have a happy bday!!

Re: Melting Pot???
That was one of my questions at my first doctors appointment... she said that all the alcohol burns out and just to make sure all the meat is cooked well. Perfectly safe!
