new to TTC

Hi ladies,
A friend recommended this site to me.
I am new to TTC and I have some questions.

I'm going to be meeting w/ a new obgyn next month (my current one isnt associated w/ the good hospital in the area so i have to switch).

I have been on the pill for 12 years. What is the average amount of months that dr's usually recommend stopping the pill before TTC?

I am also afraid of my acne flaring up and of weight gain once i stop taking BC. Am i being crazy about thinking that?

hi & welcome!!!

I was on the pill for 10 years before coming off of it in late February. I started ovulating 1 month after stopping the pill. There is no real 'recommendation' that i know of, for how many months to wait....it's all about when your body will start ovulating. Apparently though, I just learned that WHICH pill you were on matters a lot. My doc on Monday told me that Depo Vera users can take awhile to ovulate, but most other pills, you'll ovulate within a month or 2. She told me that for a lot of fertility treatments, you will be put BACK ON the pill, to force your body to produce eggs when the cycle you off of it...so be aware, it could happen right away, but it also could not.

I will be honest with you - my acne has definitely gotten worse since coming off the pill, but once I found a skin system I was happy with, it's getting better. I'm personally using the Aveeno Acne line.

Weight gain? You gain weight going ON the pill - so there is chance for weight loss

I was on the pill for 9 years. I actually lost 5 lbs within 2 weeks of stopping the pill. Every doctor is different, but mine said we could start TTC as soon as I went off the pill. The only thing she recommended was taking a multivitamin (400 mcg of folic acid) at least 3 months before TTC. I got pregnant the month after I went off the pill. Good luck!

i'm on ortho tricycline lo.

my dermatologist told me that there is some kind of topical arithromiacin (sp?) that is safe to use while ttc and pregnant (i'm current using topical antibiotics for acne and my derm told me i have to be off those for 2 months before TTC).

Welcome! I was on BCP for about 12 years myself. It probably took about two months to get on a cycle, but unfortunetly my cycle is 38 days... which would be great any other time, but not when TTC.
Anyway... I broke out pretty bad after a month along with getting bad cramps and heartburn. After that I've been ok. Got my skin under control (sorta... depends on if I'm PMSing) and back to Ovulating. I actually lost weight getting off the pill, which is great and your sex drive goes up as well. Have fun and remember to ask the Dr lots of questions! Start taking pre-natal vits too!

Well, I love my Doctor, but he's so laid back so when I told him I was TTC he just said... have lots of sex and enjoy. I just asked him about why my body was a bit different after the pill, pre-natal vits, etc. Just relax and have fun.
