Positive for Strep B
Had my 37 week appt this morning, and I tested positive for Strep B. Unfortunately, I didn't ask too many questions about it to the dr. Anybody else have this? I googled it and I guess it's pretty common (that's why they test for it), but it seems a little weird to me

I have it and basically they said it wasn't a big deal and that when I go into labor that I will have to be on iv penicillin....and also if your water breaks at home to go to the hospital asap so they can get you on the IV to lessen the chance of infection to the baby...but I would def call your dr or ask at the next appt to get their exact instructions...don't worry you will be alright!

We learned about this in our lamaze class. Yes, you need to get antibiotics as soon as you go into labor. So, if you water breaks on its own you will need to go the hospital to get the antibiotics. Also, Step B is very common in woman. Most woman don't even know they have it b/c it is not harmful to adults. But, it can be harmful to the baby when he/she passes through the birth canal and you don't get the antibiotics. Its really nothing to be concerned about as long as you call your dr. when you go into labor.
