Hello-New Here and Need Some Advice

My DH and I are moving to Florida in three months. We have decided to actively TTC in January/February, but we are taking the "getting ready" steps now. I am getting off a dangerous drug for my rheumatoid arthritis this month, so I need 6 methotrexate free months before TTC.

First, how do I go about picking a new OB/GYN in Boca Raton, where we will be living. I have moderate to severe rheumatoid arthritis, so I was wondering if I should consult with a high risk obstetrician.
Also, when do you start prenatal vitamins? One doctor said I should in November, which is three months off of methotrexate. Anyone start prenatal vitamins sooner?
Is there any good books to help us prepare?
Anything else we need to do?

Thanks in advance!

If you don't know anyone that can recommend a good doctor in that area, then look up providers in your insurance and see if you can do some online research on the names that come up.

I also recommend the book that davenjess recommended, it is a great starting point!

You should start taking vitamins with at least 400 mg of folic acid at any time. It's always good to start at least 2-3 months before TTC, so that the folic acid builds up. You can take it as far in advance of TTC as you want though, it doesn't hurt. In fact, many women's vitamins contain 400mg so you may not need to start actual prenatals until you are actively TTC. Just read the label and make sure it has at leat 400mg of folic acid.

Best of luck, and welcome!!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
