Ultrascreen (update)

I'm so excited to see my Lil Bean again!! And my DH is on his way home from work early so he's DEF going to be able to make this one (we were so upset that he missed the 1st sonogram).

I'm just dreading having to drink all that water! I can't drink water- it automatically comes up!Chat Icon I asked (the lady I made the appt with) if I could drink something else and they said no that it has to be water-I wonder whyChat Icon

UPDATE:

Baby looks GREAT! Strong heartbeat and from what they can tell from the sono and meauring the neck, everything looks GREAT!! Should have the results in about 2 weeks! I can't believe how much he/she has grown in one month! More in LOVE than ever!!

Re: Ultrasreen in 2 hours!

Good luck!

I didn't have to drink any water before my ultrascreen. But I feel for you! I had to have my embryo transfer on a full bladder and it was excrutiating!

Re: Ultrasreen in 2 hours!

no it doesn't have to be water.........

I had a full bladder and my bean was so hyper that they ended up doing and internal anyways....................

Don't make yourself sick. If you can't keep the fluid down they can do and internal!

Have fun!!!

Re: Ultrasreen in 2 hours!

hmm... it doesn't make sense that it has to be water. how will they know?

they need you to drink the water because a full bladder pushes your uterus up, making it easier to see the baby with an external sono (i didn't have to do this, i had an internal sono for the ultrascreen).

the bladder kind of acts as a "window" that you can see the baby thru... i guess they want the urine to be as clear as possible but it's a sono, not a camera... i am not a tecnician but i don't think that the sonogram could be that affected by urine "created" by another kind of liquid.

Thats what I was thinking too! i just don't understand why it would matter! If I can't hold the water down then I'm gonna try gatorade! If that doens;t work then oh well- they'll have to figure something out!!

Thanks girls for all the well wishes!!!

Re: Ultrasreen in 2 hours!

Good luck!! It's so exciting to see how big they get.

I think as long as you have any liquid you should be fine. I had an internal for my ultrascreen as well as an external sono and my bladder wasn't full.

Re: Ultrasreen in 2 hours!

try flavored water

I had to drink 32oz prior to mine. AND i had to hold it at least an hour to the appt.

OMG did I wanna die..

It had to be full for measurements and a clear pic then they let me empty it before going on with the rest of the u/s

but i think flavored water should be ok.

Good Luck

An ultrascreen is a blood test and ultrasound, right?

Re: Ultrasreen in 2 hours!

Good luck! I was never told to have a full bladder for the ultrascreen. The tech even told me I could use the bathroom before the sono. She had no problem getting the measurements.

I loved the ultrascreen sono b/c that was the first time the baby actually looked like a baby. Hope it goes well. Chat Icon

Re: Ultrasreen in 2 hours!

Have fun!

I too wasn't instructed to drink beforehand, only NOT to empty my bladder once I got there at the appt.

You will love what you see!

Re: Ultrasreen in 2 hours!

they told you to drink water!? Maybe it's because of the type of sono machines they have, I didn't have to do that...Have fun and enjoy!!!
