Timing of HSG
I was told when I called about the HSG that I needed to call the day my period comes and AF has not come yet and was supposed to come. I have tested and it was negative and I highly doubt that I am pregnant.
I was told that I have to get blood work prior to getting it done. What if I get my period on the weekend? Then what, do I have to wait until next month?

Re: Timing of HSG
What kind of bloodwork? I didn't have to have any bloodwork done prior to having the HSG. I just called the day I got my period and made the appointment to have it done.

Re: Timing of HSG
I had CD3 bloodwork done prior to my HSG, but it was being done independent of the HSG. I don't think there is any bloodwork that needs to be done prior to an HSG.

Re: Timing of HSG
I had to take a blood pregnancy test before the HSG eventhough I got AF and knew I wasn't PG. Some RE's take no chances because if you are PG, a HSG could jeopardize it.

Re: Timing of HSG
Yeah the first time I did the HSG I didn't have to have a beta (St. Cathrine of Sienna Radiology), the one I did last week needed a beta before they'd do the test (Good Sam Radiology).
HSG is done on CD7-10. So, after you get AF (which I wish you don't and that you are pg) and call for you appointment, you will have at least a week to get a beta test.
My RE didn't do my HSG (which I'm sure now was a mistake on my part, I should have had him do it), so I got a script and went to a local lab for the beta test to save me time. They faxed the results the next day.

Re: Timing of HSG
At the place where the HSG would be performed they said I needed bloodwork done 3 days prior to the HSG.
I worried that if I get my period let's say later in the week that I will be screwed this month and not be able to have the HSG. Like let's say I get it on Thursday CD 3 would be Saturday know what I mean.

OK that makes no sense. Maybe you should call to confirm this. They are all weird with their rules so it could be right, that is crazy.
Though they did confirm with me last Thurs b/f the test that I did not have unprotected s e x after the beta test (it was 5 days later). Hmmm....do they know something we don't know? LOL.... Like it would be that easy to get pg before ovulating

Re: Timing of HSG
The hsg has to be done before CD 10 and after the bleeding and spotting has stopped. So if they want you to get bloodwork you should have plenty of time to get it done. They will not do it until you get over AF. Good Luck.. I really hope you are pg and don't have to have the test at all!

We were told no sex at all from CD1 until the HSG! I didn't know why. Maybe because of suspected pregnacy or maybe they didn't want any sperm lingering that they would then flush deep into your system? I know that infection is a big fear with the HSG.

They told me the same thing, and I actually asked the nurse at the radiology place why no sex and she told me they don't want to take any chance at all you could be pregnant because if you were, there is no way the pregnancy could survive the test - the dye would kill the embryo.
I had CD3 testing done at the RE, and had to swear up and down at the HSG that I was not pregnant, had not had sex since CD1 and there was absolutely no chance I was pregnant.
