I am going away.....Update! 8/16

For the first time in 2 years since I have Lola.. I am freaking out!! I am leaving her with my Mother for 3 days.

I am scared to death.. She has never ever slept anywhere but in my bed in my arms. I know my Mother loves her but I dont expect her to do what I do.. She is always on my lap when I am on the computer.. She has all of my attention all the time. We have a certain system.

When I leave her at my moms for a few hours she tells me she is sad and keeps looking at the door until I get back.

My DH booked a dog friendly Hotel in Saratoga but thats stupid.. She will be left all day and night in an unfamiliar place.. I would have the worst time. I need a break but I cant stop getting myself upset.. Has this happened to anyone else? Please tell me..

Update: We lived!! Neither one of died or got sick!! We both ate (too much btw) And we survived.. I think my poor Mother got it the worst!! Her back is killing her.. She said Lola kept her up all night.. I forced her to sleep in my old bedroom with her and my robe.. She said she tossed and turned all night My poor mother, between that and the 14 phone calls she was a wreck! I hope next time its better for her.. Thanks for all of the support and understanding guys! It meant alot to me!

I also agree, leaving her with your mom is way better than leaving her in a hotel room. We never wanted to leave them in ahotel room, afraid someone would steal them or housekeeping would let them out somehow.

Your mom will do just fine I am sure, and your baby is in good hands. The longest I have ever left my dogs was about 4 days to go visit friends in NC. It was hard but they survived and got a lot of attention from my parents anyway.

But I really do understand. It's so hard leaving them, they are our babies. I call at least 2 times a day to check on them when we leave th em with my mom. Even though I trust her, I still get extremely nervous about something happening to them while I am not with them.

Go away and have a good time. Your mom will do a great job, it's the best thing for your girl.

I know it is hard. I just went camping and teared up every time I saw a dog at the campsite. But Brutus does really well with his "grandma" and until I am reminded I can usually relax and enjoy myself!

I know exactly how you feel. When we leave, my brother always house-sits. He makes fun of me because I call several times a day. My husband always recalls the time we were on St. John, one of the prettiest islands in the Caribbean, and I am on my cell phone to my brother, crying about missing my dogs.

Your dog is in good hands. Try to enjoy your trip!

I know it's hard, but I think it's a really good thing for you and the pup. The first time we left our dog for a substantial amount of time was over our honeymoon. Neither of our parents could take him for two weeks, so we had to kennel him. I started HYSTERICAL crying just when I went to view the place. I cried so hard the day before we had to drop him off that no one would allow me to take him! Thankfully my parents dropped him off, and ended up picking him up early and watching him for a few days.

Anyway, the first time is always the worst, but it'll be good for you to spend time apart for a few days and get used to letting her going on mini-vacations with your parents. She's very lucky to have your mom to watch her!

DH and I have not taken a vacation together in nearly 2 years ( we got Brody in Jan. 07) because I refuse to leave him anywhere. If we do ever decide we need to get away , I will only leave him with my parents. I just have not had the heart or guts to do it yet. I totally understand how u feel. I would have to insist my parents let Brody sleep with them also! When my grandma died in March of this year, the wake and funeral was up in Westchester, so I had DH's best friend come and dogsit in my house. I told him I had a nannycam on him so he better take care of my baby boy!

WE haven't gone away yet and I don't look forward to it. Especially, b/c he is so used to sleeping on the bed with us. My stomach turns everytime I think of it.

I was the same way when I left our kitty and dog with my mom when we went away last year. But I knew they were in good hands and they love their Grandma. But we had an unexpecting death in the family the beginning of the year and had to go away for 2 days we had no choice in boarding them but we made sure we picked a good place that was recommended from a few people from DH's job. Then I was a nervous wreck because a stranger was taking care of them but they reassured me that everything would be fine and it was. We would do it again if we had to.

A nannycam I love it.. I have 2 friends that have dogs that Lola has had play dates with.. I wont let anyone watch there dogs either but me. I force them to bring them here when they go away. I really have issues. the day is coming close to leaving and I am so upset. its all i talk about. I really am sick to my stomach. I live fro this dog. I dont even like it myself. I hope this helps both of us. All she does is stare at me and follow me all over. Its abnormal. I am doing this even if it kills me.
