honestly, gynecologists REALLY need to start telling patients about the NEGATIVE aspects of BCP. it messes up your cycles, hormone levels, and even your ability to conceive. Having a regular period or less cramping is just not worth it when you want to TTC and you have difficulty often related to past BCP use.

Re: I wish I had never went on BCP

I even asked about effect when I was going to TTC at one point and my concerns were dismissed and not even addressed. I was basically told they were safe and that was about it.

exactly...safe as in their not FATAL, but they tell you nothing about the devastating effects it can have on your fertility. but again look at the all money they make from the pharamceutical companies to write a gazillion Rx's for BCP.

i went to seminar on natural family planning and a nurse there told us os many stories how so many women that came to her were actual now infertile--solely due to BCP or Depo=Provera, etc.

i have already a cyst on my ovary , a tumor on my fallopian tube and a lumptectomy for a lump in my breast.... hmmm? BCP related... possibly... it's not worth it. i am done.,

These things aren't true. It may take your body a few cycles to "readjust" after being on BCP, but they do not mess up your hormones or have a neagative impact on your ability to conceive.
Those who have irregular cycles and fertility issues after coming off BCP (like me) had the issues BEFORE going on them and the pill just masked them.

There are some negatives associated with them - like the increased chance for blood clots (which is still very small), mood swings, decrease in libido, etc. But they will not effect your fertility.
There are millions and millions of women who were on birth control, then came off when ready to conceive and had absolutely no issues. The majority of women are like this.

I never blame BCP on my fertility issues. I know I had PCOS before I went on them, it just went undiagnosed - my doctor put me on BCP as a teenager without thinking about the fact I might want to have a baby sometime in the future. The only thing I wish is that doctors would diagnose disorders like PCOS earlier so women would know what they are in for.
I do feel like I wasted a heck of a lot of money on them since I don't ovulate anyway, lol.

i probably should have said it CAN effect your fertility. it's not extremely common, but it does happen. and you're right... a lot of the gyns. use BCP as a solution to a problem, but they're not solving the problem or remotely even dealing with the problem (i.e. PCOS, endometriosis, etc.)

there is documented proof about how things like BCP, Depo-Provera have taken away women's fertility. like you have said, it's not extmreely common, but it does happen.

IMO, giving your body hormones is not the best idea.

That part I agree with. I never had any issues with my cycle before I was on BCP. In fact, I only went on BCP after I got engaged and was only on it for a year. It was only after coming off BCPs that my issues started.
