Frontline question
I'm a big frontline user with my two dogs. First of every month, (from april - september) guaranteed, they get their baths and frontline. Last night I was holding Bailey (my chihuahua) and I saw a flee walking on his face!!! I'm mortified! If I buy frontline from Dr Fosters and Smith, can I get some money back? Should I call Frontline? I'm really upset that I spend so much money on this if it's not going to work. Any thoughts?
TIA!

Re: Frontline question
You may see a flea walking. That doesn't mean the medicine isn't working. The fleas don't die automatically. It could take hours (I think about 12 hrs). Take a look at the frontline website. It explains this somewhere on there.

Re: Frontline question
I think it's my fault though because he's been itching for a couple of days- I never realized it could be fleas because of the frontline. I know there is more than just one.

Why is it your fault? Have you been using the frontline monthly?
Also, if the flea is on your dog, it wil bite. The bites take a week or two to heal, just like a mosquito bite so just b/c he is scratching, doesn't mean he has fleas currently walking on him. Frontline doesn't prevent a flea from biting a dog. When my dog would have a flea on him, I would see him scratch for a week or two, but yet the flea was already dead or I removed it.
Look at the belly. Do you see any live fleas walking? Do you see anything that looks like pepper (flea dirt)?

Yes, I've been using it monthly. I just feel like if he's had fleas for a little while, I should have caught it sooner. I feel bad.
I'll look at his belly when I get home- you've been a big help. Thank you.

You are very welcome. Just b/c you saw a live flea, please don't think it means the frontline isn't working. Look at the belly and see if you see the flea dirt.
What I did was I bought a flea comb and you take a clear tuppperware or glass with water and make it sudsy with dishwashing liquid.
You comb over where you see a flea or THINK a flea may be (they hang out in teh belly/butt area mostly due to the warmth). So swipe the comb through the fur, or where you see the flea, then dip into the clear glass/tupperware. Swish it around a few seconds. If you see the flea drop out, you know you got it. The flea will literally drown in front of your eyes, and sink to the bottom of the container (that's what the suds are for, to add weight to the water).
Whenever I saw fleas on my dog, I did this (we were on flea meds). And my house or dog never got infested so I know the product worked.
Also, EVERY time I have seen a LIVE flea on my dog, I also saw the flea dirt. So let me know if you see any on the belly area. It looks just like specs of pepper (it's actually flea poop, which is digested blood< ugh). If you even took a wet tissue and dabbed the flea dirt spec, it would turn reddish...(doggie's blood from getting bitten, then in the flea's poop).
So the flea dirt can really tell you if he still has them or if there is a lot of them. Don't panic, if you areusing the frontline relgiously, the odds are it is working. Let me know how it goes.
