Re: What's the deal with the dentist?
yes, you can go to the dentist for cleanings and basic stuff. Its when you'll need other stuff to be concerned.

Yes you can. Let them know you're pregnant. I have to call for my cleaning.

Yep, I went the day I got my BFP...they wouldn't allow xrays. I go for my 6 month check up on the 28th of this month.

Re: What's the deal with the dentist?
You can go and you can even have a cavity filled if you need to. I just went last week when I was 29 weeks along and my OB sent over to them a list of meds that were okay to use. I had to get a cavity filled and he just numbed the area and used plain novacaine which is ok. If you're concerned just check with the OB first and they will be able to tell you what you can have done and take for pain while there.

You can go and you SHOULD go. My dentist made me visit him twice while I was pregnant (3 months apart instead of 6) because pregnancy can sometimes do a number on your teeth. Luckily, that didn't happen with me.

Re: What's the deal with the dentist?
Yup, you can.
I have actaully been having dental surgery durning PG. I talked to my OB about it before getting PG and she said to have the part with the X-Rays and antibiotics done before PG, but the second phase (just novacane) could be done once I finished the 1st trimester.

Re: What's the deal with the dentist?
Cleanings are safe from conception to birth. We actually recommend cleanings to our pregnant patients every trimester of pregnancy. Gum disease is linked to low birthweight babies. As far as dental work is concerned the 2nd trimester is the preferred time to do anything. Do inform them because they will double lead apron you if it's a must they need to take an xray and use a special epinephrine free novacaine.
