That was a suprise...
DH and I talked about our possibilities last night. I laid out all the pros and cons for him. Now, he's usually the conservative one, usually putting on the brakes to more aggressive treatments and slowly, but surely I can draw him into agreement with me.
So, anyway, I of course came into the conversation leaning towards laparscopic surgery. I explained to him that the research shows that having endometriosis, even if severe, does not impact the success rate of IVF, and that the benefit, however, of doing laparscopic surgery is that if I do have severe endo, they may be able to treat it, which gives us a shot of saving $8k and getting pregnant with the IUIs.
Well, his position seems to be that he doesn't want for me to have to undergo the laparscopic surgery if all it does for us is give us the remote possibility of getting pregnant with IUI's. His perspective is we have the $$ for IVF, so that shouldn't be a factor in how we decide to proceed.
Now I'm more confused.
I need to ruminate for a few days

Oh, I misunderstood yesterday...I didn't know it was only a remote chance of improving your chances if you had the surgery......In that case, I would probably head right onto IVF....this is making you crazy, isn't it????

I think one thing to keep in mind though about the surgery is how the endo may affect you when you're off bcps and dealing with AF every month until you hit menopause. You mentioned that the pain was terrible, to me that would be a reason to consider the surgery.
Good luck!

I think it is wonderful that your husband is onboard for the IVF. I think that if the surgery is not going to increase your chances of conception with IUI, your best bet would be to move to IVF

That was about 10 years ago, and I think unrelated to endo. It was truly unbearable but then I went on BCPs and it disappeared entirely. And in the year and a half since I've stopped the BCPs I haven't had any unusual symptoms or pain at all.
It is definitely something to consider down the line, no doubt, if I should start experiencing more severe symptoms. But at this point, it also poses a delay in getting what I ultimately want at this point in my life. I just have to figure out if that delay is worth it.
Decisions, decisions...

Sometimes they can really throw you for a loop. I'm glad he understands and thought about it. It's nice when a couple is on the same page - you can be more proactive in your treatment.
(While he is in a "giving mood", you MAY want to ask for a BMW like I did. I didn't get one, but DH did say I could have a housekeeper instead - which to me is like hitting the lottery! )

Ah, yes, well, I already have the housecleaner (which, by the way, saved our marriage), and Dh has made it clear that he will divorce me if I ever even CONSIDER purchasing a german car Can't really blame him given his family history, but come on now... it's ok though because I'm a nice little granola tree hugger. I'll take my subaru outback over a BMW any day of the week, lucky for him!
