Story on Maddie and *fate* (sorry!! LONG!)
So Saturday, I get out of the shower and DH says, “Get ready quick but don’t ask where we are going!”. I just figure he planned a fun surprise since I complained that our weekends consist of laundry, food shopping and weeding/mowing!!
We’re in the car for about 15 mins before he says “I can’t believe you’re not asking any questions!!”. My response “I have no idea so I figure I’ll keep it a surprise. I mean, the only thing I can think of is we’re going to get a puppy but I know it’s not that”
I laugh when we pull into Petco and he explains he saw a Petfinder listing for a female chocolate puppy.

So we hover, look at the other pups and I keep focused on Coco (Maddie). She’s out like a light and hasn’t moved at all. I listen to the father of the family “Is she going to be big?” “Is she going to shed?”
The shelter folks try to wake up her and she’s OUT, almost lethargic that one of the volunteers makes a call and is considering taking Maddie to the vet. And it may be wrong but I’m thinking, this family - not DOG people … if she’s sick, they will not want her. We already started filling out an app so that just in case something went wrong with them adopting at least we’d be next in line. But I keep thinking these people are going to walk away, choose another puppy. I start chatting up the other volunteers, saying how we want her, if she’s sick (ear infection, kennel cough, pet store yuck) we don’t care. Telling them about our three dogs, their wonderful long lives and how we were longing for a new pup.
She’s still REALLY lethargic … volunteer & I try to give her treats to see if she gets interested (family is now looking at another pup) … nothing. Then sorta mouths but doesn’t bite into them much. But once we give her a different one, she actually opens her eyes and moves around a bit.
One of the volunteers who I’ve been talking to who had twice said “I want you to get her” says “Why don’t you try taking her outside for some fresh air?” … and it was like NIGHT AND DAY!! She was all perky and curious and a totally mushy love!!! And continued that way when I later brought her inside.
The volunteers all said she perked up when she found who she wanted to be with
