The "pale" club
sort of a spinoff to the Jennifer Love Hewitt post on the celeb board. someone suggested starting a pale club, so I figured why not on here!
first order of business....
how do you protect yourself from the sun if you're going outdoors for a while? any tips you can share aside from the obvious sunscreen?
second order of business ....
what's the best sunscreen in your opinion?

Re: The "pale" club
I'm as white as white can get. Everyone likes to ask me why I wear white stockings because my legs are just that white
I always wear sunscreen - year round, and more in the summer. I start with a all over moisturizer with SPF 15. And since I lather my kids up before we head out, I also lather myself. I also carry a spray sunscreen, so make it real easy and non-messy on the go!
I don't have a preference in sunscreen, I think if you wear the right amount, it all works... At least for me. I do love the stuff I have for my kids - Banana Boat Dri Block SPF 30. Goes in real easy and is not greasy and totally dries.

I am a No-AD 50 gal. face, arms, and ears daily.
I don't totally trust sunscreen, so I also wear b-ball cap and t-shirt while swimming or at the beach.

Re: The "pale" club
I reapply often! like, every 90 mins if i'm out in the sun all day.
i dont have a specific brand that i swear by, but i like the really thick ones that i can rub into my skin. It just makes me feel like its doing a better job and also lets me see what areas it covered
I have a question though- how do you do your back??? Do you rely on DH or someone else? I'm on vacation and have alot of studying/reading to do. I wanted to do some at the beach (or park) and subseuqently wear a bathing suit, BUT, DH will be at work, i'm scared that i'll miss a spot, and i dont want a random person rubbing me. Any tips?

i use the coppertone spray but it now seems that almost all sunscreens come in a spray. they are pretty good and that's what i use, they are great also when DH is not around at least i can spray my back myself. i have been out in the sun a lot this summer and have not gotten a sunburn at all and most of the time i am spraying myself

Re: The "pale" club
I use 45 and reapply like every half hour. I am a big Neutrogena fan.
I have a big floppy hat and if im at the beach i sit under the umbrella.
I was in Richmond visiting my sister-now she is about an hour and a half from the beach, and we went to an exercise class together - EVERYONE was tanner than me and didnt believe i lived on long island (with easy access to the beach) and could be that pale
I would ask DH to apply before i left if going myself, andI would put on a t-shirt after a hal hour or so. Now they have the spray lotions, so that might make it easier!

I LOVE Neutrogena 45. do you know if it comes in a spray version? I haven't needed to buy suncreen in a while.

I love Bull Frog gel sunblock because it really stays on my skin even in the water and I don't have to reapply as much. I also wear a sun hat on the beach and carry a sun umbrella when I'm walking around. LOVE the sun umbrella

Non-oily, Non-greasy, Neutrogena spray sunblock. It's the best! No rubbing it in.

Re: The "pale" club
The spray on sun block really provides good coverage?? I've always been worried that it would leave some spots uncovered and i didnt want to end up all blotchy.
If its really good though, then i'd def try it- i feel like i spend 20 mins rubbing it on, and the whole back issue....

Re: The "pale" club
I use Neutrogena Ultra Sheer. The SPF goes up to 85 (I believe). I use 70 or 75. It's waterproof, sweatproof, and is what my dermatologist recommends. It also doesn't clog pores.
I usually keep covered unless I am in the pool or ocean. My back burns so easily and I don't like to take chances.

Re: The "pale" club
As someone who has been burned bad by everything, including very high SPF suncreens from a child to adulthood, I now SWEAR BY Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Body Mist in SPF 70. I was skeptical of a spray on at first, but I find it is really easy to get good coverage and is super light and not oily/greasy at all which is a huge bonus. I bought this right before going to Florida and I swear it was like a miracle. I did not get burned at all, for the first time ever, and we were at Disney all day every day! It is even light enough to spray over the scalp without leaving any residue or anything.
I'm going to buy stock in this product!

I use the Coppertone spray 30. I also use the banana boat 30 cream on my face. I reapply that very often even though it's "sweatproof".

Re: The "pale" club
I use Coppertone Sport waterproof. SPF 15 or 30. I use a different one for the face.
It's thick and last a good while and it sweat proof. I never got burn with it.
If I am at the beach I reapply every 1-1.5 hours. 2 hours max.
I apply sunscreen 15 minutes before I go out.
I have not used it this year while working on the yard. I got a nice tan on my arms.

Re: The "pale" club
I have been using the spray sunscreen for the last 2 years. over that tiem, they have come out with better ones.
However, it does cover very well but i guess since i don't have that greasy feeling, I aplly often since I can't tell if I'm protected.
It does leave your skin with a tight feeling after you spray it on, and I have yet to get burned.
I love using it on my face (hold your breath though as you spray i can't imagine that stuff is good for your lungs) but its not greasy at all and I always break out from sunscreen on my face no matter what i use, and this is the first type that doesn't make me break out.

Re: The "pale" club
I stay inside .
Now though, my daughter loves to be outside, so I got a lotion with sunscreen in it and put it on before I leave in the morning. I don't have a ton of time to spend on myself anymore, so it has to be quick.
So far, so good!
