? about drinking before the sono- UPDATE

I'm going for my 1st sono today (I'm 8 weeks today), and of course I have to drink the 24 oz of water one hour before hand. the problem is at the moment I can not hold anything down. Liquids and food come up the second they go down....my mom is running out to get gaterade is hopes that maybe that will stay down. DOES IS HAVE TO BE WATER or will any liquid do??



UPDATE:

So i was able to hold down Gatorade to get there and find out I didn't need to drink any liquids for this sono It was an internal so she said i didn't need the liquids, but I will for the 12 week sono.

Our baby is PERFECT! I can't believe this little miracle is growing inside me!!

And just as exciting- I WAS PRESCRIBED ZOFRAN

they will get the sono done no matter what... i wouldn't worry. and yes, gatorade is fine, but don't stress if you can't keep that down either!

I am surprised they want you to drink beforehand. I never had to. And yes, gatorade would work the same way. So drink that if it works.

How are you feeling otherwise?

I have never been told to drink beforehand... at 8wks I would think its an internal sono anyway...

The only time I was told to drink water 1 hour before (16 oz) was for my full anatomy scan at 16 weeks. I couldn't hold it in for an hour, but the tech still got all of the measurements.

I had an external sono at 7/8 weeks and the tech was able to see everything. I don't think I had much to drink before the sono.

I was never told to drink before either. Not for this PG or last.

I only had to drink before my Level II.

my doctor told me 36 ounces of water. I think they say that cause it will be easy to get pictures of the baby.

any kind of liquid will do

when i had my sono i drank and drank and drank...i swore i was going to pee all over the technician! but cooperated and we were able to see the cute little one! (supposedly filling up your bladder pushes up/outward the uterus so the technician can get a clearer view of the baby during the sonogram )

good luck and make sure to ask for/post pics!!!

Any kind of liquid will do. But- if you;re really having a hard time holding things down- just refrain from peeing for as long as you can before the appointment. They want a somewhat full bladder- which is why they ask you to drink.

The only sono I had to drink for w/ DS was my 20 week (and boy was that torture !!!)

I had to drink for my very first one at 6 weeks. It was an external sonogram. Then they made me pee so they could do the internal after. The tech said when you're that early the liquid helps to push your uterus up or something, so they have a better chance of seeing the baby.

Glad to hear it went well! So exciting!!!!!!!

My first ultrasound is on Monday and they didn't tell me to drink anything...and I have no clue if it is an internal or external... Is this something I should call and ask about?

zofran is great! i was cutting it in half and it worked perfectly

Thanks everyone!! So excited for the Zofran- hopefully I'll feel like a normal human again!
