Re: Shower conflict - thoughts?
That's tough...Do you know if your MIL mailed out the invitations? Is it going to be a house shower or at a place? Did you mention to your MIL that you have a wedding that day? I'm assuming invites may have went out and it's too late to reschedule, if not, maybe you can nicely let her know that you didn't want to miss your friends wedding and that you wanted your friend to attend your shower...If not, I am sure your friend will completely understand you can't go to her wedding.

I'd rsvp no, but write a little note explaining what happened and that you have no control over it.

Yes, I told MIL- we went over dates. This is almost as awesome as when she scheduled my rehearsal dinner at the one place I asked her not to (the place we had the lunch after my grandparents funerals)
sounds like your MIL needs to work on her listening skills
I agree with Janine, I'd RSVP no, but send it with a note explainig what happened and that you wish you could attend. I'm sure your friend will understand.

I would tell my MIL that that day does not work for you, she will need to find another day. Ugh, how nervy of her to not even talk to you about it first

Re: Shower conflict - thoughts?
katie, truthfully, i would tell your MIL that you heard when your shower was and unfortunately, you won't be able to make it because you already RSVPd to this wedding that you have been looking forward to for a YEAR.
why should you miss out on the wedding b/c your MIL is being a PITA???
that's what i would do with my MIL. (actually, i kind of did, but that's another story).

Re: Shower conflict - thoughts?
man... would I be ******!
No offense, but the shower should be when you are available-- not when everyone else is.
I would tell your MIL to change it.

Re: Shower conflict - thoughts?
I would make my MIL reschedule. You already had planned to go to a wedding that weekend. How can she schedule it for that day knowing you couldn't make it!

Re: Shower conflict - thoughts?
I would just let your MIL politely know that date is OUT of question. She can figure out another date, and you can't possibly work around everyone's schedules, Whoever comes will be there no matter waht date. If I was your friend I think I would be upset since you knew about the wedding way in advance! You have a tough choice. XOXO BOTB
