Re: Poll: Are you planning to breastfeed?

I don't think so. I havn't totally decided yet, but I doubt it. I think being a first time mom for me will be totally overwhelming and the thought of having to often wonder if my DS is getting enough milk, etc... will be very anxiety provoking for me. I also am not the type to breastfeed in public. It does not bother me if others do it, but for me, I could not. I do not want anymore stress than i have to deal with. i will also be going back to work and based on my job with all the traveling and such, pumping for me would be nearly next to impossible. I just know I will not have the patience to even try I think.

Re: Poll: Are you planning to breastfeed?

I absolutely plan to. I did it with DD#1 and truly loved the experience.

I was able to BF in public (but I always found dressing rooms/ private places to do it). When I had a big enough supply established, I would often bring bottles of BM with me in case I couldn't get somewhere private. Also- the only things I had to watch were spicy foods. She tolerated most everything else. Also- I never cut out drinking. I wasn't a huge drinker to begin with, but I imbibed at parties while I was BFing.

I am also amazed at the cost saving BFing provided. The cost of a high quality electric pump (300.00) and accessories (freezer bags, car adaptor, extra pump parts) were paid off LOOOONG ago considering the price of formula (DD has a milk allergy- so she would have had to be on soy formula).

I only planned to BF for the forst 6 months TOPS and wound up going to 11 months. The only reason I stopped was because I was starting to lose my supply due to pregnancy. Also, my nipples were getting too sensitive from the pregnancy hormones.

Re: Poll: Are you planning to breastfeed?

I plan to do both (hopefully he takes as well as his brother did to both). I MOSTLY bfed but I liked to have the option of formula feeding in a pinch. It was honestly the best of both worlds and allowed me to give my DS breastmilk for a year.

Re: Poll: Are you planning to breastfeed?

I want to try... one of my biggest fears and recurring nightmares is that they dont work because i had a breast reduction a few years ago... I also dont know how long I will be able to do it for... i cant imagine pumping at work since im a teacher... there is really no place to go do it in private unless i want to sit on a toilet bowl in a bathroom stall...

I'm going to give it a try. I'm not going to go crazy though, if it works great if not onto to formula.

Re: Poll: Are you planning to breastfeed?

From a BTDT mom, if anyone is on the fence, I would recommend at least trying it. I actually LOVEd bf'ing my dd, it was such an AMAZING experience. I did supplement with formula as well so she got mostly bm but my dh was able to give her formula when needed. I did it for 3 months as I was not comfortable pumping at work but I really did enjoy that time with my dd

Same here - even if I was having one, I would be on the fence. It's a very personal decision.

I am definitely going to try, and if I have trouble I'm going to keep trying to make it work. We'll see but I have high hopes it will go well. Chat Icon

I am tired of lectures from family and outsiders telling what is best for my child. I know what's best for my child. I'm a big girl now!

I am 99% sure I won't be BF'ing. It's a decision I have struggled with, but I am not committed to it and not comfortable with it. I just wish people would keep their comments to themselvesChat Icon

Re: Poll: Are you planning to breastfeed?

I'm planning on BFing although I'm not sure whether I'll be EBFing once I return to work.

I also believe that a happy mom equals a happy baby. If BFing doesn't work or becomes very stressful/difficult, I have no problem supplementing or completely switching over to formula.

Re: Poll: Are you planning to breastfeed?

I plan on doing both as I did with my son. Breastfeeding was hard for me the first time but I will try again.

I'm with you! Most likely I will NOT be bfing..I have read up on all the literature about breast milk vs. formula...and the bottom line is..breast milk has vitamins formula doesn't have and formula has certain vitamins b-milk doesn't have..so it really is just a personal choice. I can understand the bond thing..but I just don't think it's for me. Believe me..I will have plenty of bond time with my children and it doesn't have anything to do with if I b-fed them or not. I considered pumping..but I don't know if I'm comfortable with that either.

Re: Poll: Are you planning to breastfeed?

i def. plan on breastfeeding. i too felt uncomfortable with the idea but i decided i need to get over myself and do it for the betterment of our child. after 3 months when i go back to work, i plan to pump and dump! i hear you also save tons of money on formula.

i joke around and call my husband my sickly child b/c he gets sick pretty often whereas i am hardly ever sick so i want our baby to get his/her's mama's immunity!

anyhow, i understand that you are very uncomfortable with the whole idea but i def. recommend you go to a breastfeeding class! my sister in law was also on the fence about breastfeeding and she went to a class just to get some information and now she is all about breastfeeding!

I am definitely planning to breastfeed. I really want to be able to provide my son with the nourishment he needs. TO ME, that is the most important thing. I've heard it can be difficult but I am committed to making it work. I also plan to pump so that DH can feed him and I can continue to breast feed when I go back to work after 3 months.

Ditto!! Will try my best to do it!!

Re: Poll: Are you planning to breastfeed?

I am having two and I am going to try. It is funny because anyone i have told thinks I am crazy except my DH. We both want to try it out and see how it goes. No pressure but make a big effort. A big reason is the expense as well as the benefits to health and immunity.
