Great link I found explaining screening tests and their differences
I know I have had a hard time understanding the diffferences of all the screening tests (ultrascreen, sequential, integrated, triple, quad, afp alone, etc). I found this great link that finally helps me understand the difference b/w all the screening tests based on their names and what they test for, and and when they are done. Just wanted to share this great link that maps it all out, so it can help someone understand as it helped me!
FYI-Link does have some sensitive info. You have to scroll down to get to the comparative chart about the tests. explanation of diagnostic tests

I'm glad you got some answers. I felt bad that I didn't have info for you before. With my 1st I was pretty naive to all of this and just did what the Dr. said. Now I'm curious about everything.
Thank you for putting your findings out there. I'm going to read after I hopefully put my DS to bed.

Ya know, you are right. It can be very scary. For someone like me who knew from the get go that she would have an amnio, every test until that amnio really meant much less. And the time waiting for my amnio results was the worst two weeks of my life. But I can understand how this statement below can scare any woman:
Age is a known risk factor for DS; however, half of DS children are born to women less than 35. Most women UNDER 35 DO NOT have CVS or amniocentesis which identify DS with certainty because they may not want to take the risks of the test or because they know they would not terminate a pregnancy no matter what - but the fear is still there. Also, more women UNDER 35 in general have more children than those of us OVER 35. Sure women like me who are older than 35 have increased risk factors, but nobody is immune to possibilities.
The best thing we can do is to inform ourselves and make educated choices.

It's ok. I know that for some people they rather not know major details, what works best for them is letting their dr guide them. For me, I like to know as much as I can so I can ask questions (probably too many, lol). At least now I know what to ask my dr, since I feel I am sort of in the dark right now. I was just getting overwhelmed with all these tests that I was desperate for answers and found this link.

That's how I feel. I want to be as educated as possible, although it does drive me bonkers knowing what I know.
