Dr. Hanauer

for the many girls who use her, do u know if she does her own sono's and amnios or does she send u out to places like Madonna etc? that is very important to me.
i guess what i am asking is..... anyone who uses her that needed an amnio, did she do it or send u elsewhere?
thanks

Madonna techs come to the office to do the sono's like the ultrascreen, Level II, etc on Mondays and Thursdays. Dr. Hanauer did the regular sonos I had at 8 and 13 weeks herself. I don't know about amnios, sorry.

I love her, she's very sweet and gives you all the time you need when you have questions, thus she is often running behind schedule. She's also very busy, so getting an appt is sometimes an issue.

what do you mean by conservative?

I really love her. I live in Queens and travel to Garden City to see her. I have never felt so comfortable with a doctor as I do with her. She is very respectful of my husband and talks to both of us during the appts. She definitely listens to everything I have to say and answers all questions, no matter how ridiculous they are.

Re: Dr. Hanauer

I saw dr. Hanauer with my first pregnancy and ended up mc. She allowed me MC naturally at 6 weeks and didnt jump right to a D&C. Im currently scheduled to see her again July 25th when i am released from my RE. she is great about returning phone calls and when i was in so much pain with the first before i knew I was MC she would talk to me to calm me down and squeeze me in to put me at ease. She believes very much that we should be calm during pregnancy and even called after my MC to see how i am doing mentally (this was 3 weeks after) and to tell me what to expect next. She even went as far to tell me that if i want weekly appts. that is fine with her. So i would have to say she is great!!

Plus, I think the whole practice is good like this. I had to see Dr. Dolisi when I miscarried and he was great. Then when I got pg again I couldn't get to see Hanauer for a while (she was booked up) so I saw Dolisi and he literally gave me 3 or 4 sonos in my first trimester just to put me at ease.

As far as I know, she isn't high risk. She delivers at Winthrop.

Re: Dr. Hanauer

I love her.

The thing is I love the front desk too. They always have been great to me.

I am "a bit" behind in my appt. I had DS 1 year ago and just called to get my yearly exam. The receptionist knew my name before I introduced myself when I called and asked me how I was doing.

I feel I am not just a wallet when I go there.

does she listen to your thoughts and questions YES. She is very patient and attentive. I had a HR PG with her and from the very first visit she was incredible.

is she a conservative doctor I am not sure what you mean, but she does try VBAC births over c-sections, and will consult other professionals in the event of a rare case. She is in constant contact with specialists, too, when needed.

how quickly do they respond to phone calls Honestly it depends on the nature of the call. If the Dr is in a delivery or unreachable, the nurse usually responds pretty quickly if it is a medical problem. For test results and such they are usually pretty good at telling you when someone will call.

does she remember you from past visits YES! She lives close to one of the stores I shop in and I ran in to her one day & she remembered me, DHs name, the babys name, my delivery, and even asked how my mom & SIL are doing (they are also her patients).

my previous doctor was so horrible never remembered me for 4 years that i was going and was like whatever with any questions i had which i hated When I went to my 1st visit with this BFP, I went to her nurse (standard for just taking bloodwork in the beginning). She made sure to wait in the hall between her patients to speak with me after the urine test confirmed, and had a short conversation of how we are going to proceed with my care for this PG. She knew I was nervous about a 2nd PG after my first and wanted to make sure that she spoke to me personally and face-to-face about it. She is like going to a friend that happens to be a great Dr.

I would recommend making several appointments at a time if you begin to go to her, because as of right now she only has one late night and they book quickly. I make 3 mos worth of appointments at a time usually.

She definitely does not rush c-sections. I cannot speak for drugs from personal experience, but I will tell you that before I knew I needed a c-section, we discussed a birth plan and I wanted to go natural and she seemed to be on board with it and asked what I thought I would do for pain management (lamaze, breathing, meditation, that sort of thing).

As for taking pregnancy seriously, she definitely respects it. And she is a mother as well, so she is a BTDT, which I love.
* I also want to add that although I had to have a c-section with my last PG, I told her already I want to try to go natural with this one if possible. She told me that she would track my PG closely and we would definitely attempt a VBAC first and not just rush into a c-section b/c my first one was.
