Any pregnant vegetarians out there?
Being a vegetarian has never been so hard! Not only am I craving meat like no other (driving past a Burger King is torture) but I have my DH on my back that I need to eat meat for the baby!

Re: Any pregnant vegetarians out there?
you do not need to eat meat for the baby! meat is not necessary as long as your diet is right.
i'm not a vegetarian anymore but i ate less meat during pregnancy because i didn't want it. i was a strict vegetarian for years, and that whole "you NEED meat statement" that people give you is not only false but rude. just talk with your doctor and make sure you are getting the right nutrition--you might need a vitamin supplement but that would probably be it.

I am a vegetarian. Im not really good at counting the protein I am eating...Im sure it has to be much more. Beans...green leafy veggies, peanuts. Theres a lot of info out there for pregnant vegetarians...lots of recipies. Dont feel like you NEED to eat meat. If you are craving it, thats much different from me. Nothing could make me crave it. Whatever you want to eat during the pregnancy..go for it.

I am a vegetarian-- I have had NO desire for meat whatsoever.
I eat healthy and balanced under normal circumstances-- when not nauseous with food aversions. So, I am sure I will get all the nutrition I need once I eat normally again.

Thanks for all the replies and advise guys! Whats funny is that the thought of meat has disgusted me until recently!! And as much as I am craving it, I will not go back and eat it!

I'm vegetarian and just delivered a healthy, beautiful DD 11 days ago. I think vegetarians are very knowledgeable about their diets and we do an excellent job of managing our nutrition. The first trimester can be rough time to do this though.

Re: Any pregnant vegetarians out there?
I was a pregnant vegetarian, though we do eat fish. I wasn't given any specific warnings, other than to make sure I was eating enough protein. I ate a LOT of salmon during my pregnancy, which is supposedly very good for the developing fetus.
Anyway, while my DD came out a little peanut, she became the biggest chunk ever, and was, and still is, VERY healthy, so there's no real impediment to being a pregnant vegetarian.
