Going to wean off wellness until he's done w/ puppy food
It's just getting rediculous already. He's not doing well w/ Wellness Puppy food at all. He either will not touch it, or he gets horrible bouts of the runs. I feel so bad for the poor pup already. We have taken him to the vet and had his stool tested and everything was fine. I have been giving him medication that he hates to try to control it, but I hate having to do that...and it's not a permanent fix. I have also tried mixing chicken and rice and it does not work.
So, now that wellness is not going to work, what puppy food do you suggest? What ratio should I divide the new food and old food? I plan on switching back when he can start adult food.

Re: Going to wean off wellness until he's done w/ puppy food
Hi my puppy (but she's 2 now) had the SAME problem with Wellness, it was terrible! At our vet's recommendation we switched to Merrick (dry, but I usually pour a little chicken broth on top), and she's been GREAT on that food!!!
Here's their site:
Merrick We used "Puppy Plate" until she was about 9 months, then switched to Cowboy Cookout; if the store is out of that she also loves Grammy's Pot Pie.
They also sell "trial" sizes so you're not stuck in case puppy doesn't do well with it!!
As for switching, we moved Sophie over in about 3 days, starting with 50/50, then 25/75 then 100% to Merrick.
HTH!!
*Oh and the Petland store near me finally sells it, so I don't have to order it online anymore Those shipping fees were

I also agree with Merrick. All of my dogs have done well on it.
for the first week of weaning, 75% of what you are feeding now, 25% of the new food.
Second week, 50% /50%
Third week, 25% of the old food, 75% of the new food
Final week, 100% all new food.
Best of luck!

We use Merricks too. OUr dogs love it. If you ad a tiny bit of hot water, it makes like a gravy so thats what we do with lucky. Porter eats it dry. They both Hated the wellness.
Does your pup maybe have colitis? Porter has this. We have to mix like 1/2 scoop of W/D prescription food with the Merricks for him so he does not get diarreah. If he doesn't have it for 1 feeding, he gets the runs. We only give him flagyl when his stomach is acting up badly. We have it on hand at all times but i havent needed it in months.

I recommend Innova or Candiae (I think that is the spelling). Penny is doing fine on Innova~

I kept forgetting to ask you the name of it! Thanks!
I think part of the problem may actually still be teething. He lost 2 teeth this morning and his gums were bleeding a bit. I still don't think the food's helping though. I think it's time to try something new. Thanks again!

Re: Going to wean off wellness until he's done w/ puppy food
I wonder if the puppy has a food allergy? I called Wellness a few months ago asking questions about the Core line and the person I was talking to said a lot of Dogs have allergies to Turkey or Chicken so that's why they have the Core with the Fish for those with sensitive stomachs.
