OH NO FLEASSSSSS

how is this possible ? My 9 month old shih tzu/havanese has fleas and it hasnt even been 2 weeks from the last K9 advantix treatment. He is a FURRY monster and he plays in the wood w/ 3 of his friends but i thought the POWERFUL K9 advantix would protect him. i called the vet and am waiting for a call back. either i need to reapply k9 (u can every 2 weeks) but I am so scared to do it again so soon... or some capsule stuff. any recommendations?
I was reading a prior post about flea comb. I have to be careful cause I am pregnant so the stuff cant be toooooo powerful where humans can have a reaction. guess my puppy cant have his beautiful long thinck double coat during flea season huh?

Re: OH NO FLEASSSSSS

wow, cant believe not one response,,, guess i am in an odd situation...

FYI - vet called and said he probably was playing w/ another dog that has fleas and they are on him but once they bite him they die due to the k9 adnavtix. so that makes me feel better. they said I can re-apply the k9 next week (it will be 3 weeks from last application.) anyway, we were instructed to give him a bath w/ flea shampoo (hubby's job) and vaccuum vaccuum vacuum!!!

just wanted to update! in case anyone faces this similiar situation........

Re: OH NO FLEASSSSSS

I am so sorry, I did not see your post. I would have responded.

My dogs use Frontline (similar product). Flea meds are safe to use while you are pg, just let your DH or someone else apply it, and let it dry fully before touching the dog in that area. I asked my OB and even called Frontline. Even pg and nursing dogs can use these products so they can't be that dangerous.

I would limit where your dog goes for now, if you are concerned. I am pg also and not bringing my dog to high risk areas such as dog parks, woods, etc. I rather not take any chances. I do use Frontline myself, have DH apply it and let it dry before I touch or pet my dog's neck area.

My dogs have had fleas and I posted about the flea comb. You add some dishwashing detergent (dawn) to a clear container and add water. THen you brush the dog with teh comb, esp if you see a live flea. One swoop with the comb then immediately dip the comb into the container and swish around. You should see the flea drop out of the comb and into the clear water and little bubbles come out (flea dying!) and then the flea drops to the bottom on the container.

This is helpful just to get live fleas off the dog while your flea product is working.

As I said above, I am pg too and I debated on not using the flea products but I figure it may be worse for my dog or house to get infested while pg, than the slight to no risk of (my DH) putting that product on my pet while I am pg. So I opted to continue using, but I also do limit where my dogs go as I really can't afford to get bitten by a tick or even flea right now b/c they do carry diseases that I don't want to risk getting while pg.

HTH, sorry so late. Your flea product should work and you may see live fleas. They flea products don't kill fleas immediately. You don't have to reapply, just use once a mth as directed.
