Does this happen to you too? Or is it just me?
I swear strangers must smell my desperation.
I was just at the nail salon. The girl doing my nails was trying to chit chat with me like they always do. I could barely understand what she was saying. She was saying to me, and I kid you not: "Babies? babies? Do you have BABY?" I said "Baby? Me? No."
She said "You married?" , I said "Yes I am married".
She said "Ohhh you married you no have BABY? Why no baby?" I said "I don't know, I have no money for a baby!"
She said "How old?" I told her I was 31 and she said "31 no baby????" I was just staring at her in disbelief at this point and I just smiled.
Then she kept looking at me saying "Ohhhh" all sympathetic-like.

Tell me about it! I work at a school and women who had their babies in April/May are coming back to visit. When I hold their babies my colleagues say "You look so good holding a baby" "Maybe there's a baby in your near future" All that I think is "if you only knew!"

I absolutely cannot believe you are posting this. This happens to me at the nail salon too. There is one girl, the sweetest ever, but she asks me all the time. How old are you? Any babies soon? One time she asked me two weeks after my miscarriage.

 My God I am so sorry. They are sweet and they mean well, but it's really a very personal question.
I have had plenty of people tell me I look good when holding a friends baby as well. Ya think????

They probably have nothing else to talk about. I hate when people ask things like that and don't think at all what they might be saying. I'm sure she just meant to be chatty and nothing more.
Why do people say 'you look good holding a baby'? Like we would look bad holding one. That's like to me when someone says "you look really good today" and i'm like wow what do I normally look like. LOL. I guess these are things people say when they have nothing to say and feel they have to say something. I call them fillers.

I have found no matter what nail salon I go to, they ALWAYS ask that question. And the look of horror when I say I'm 37, married and no kids, makes me feel like I'm a leper or something.

I totally agree, it always happen @ the nail salon and/or if im holding someone's baby.. Women are just wired that way.. You are a certain age, well then you should be married with kids! Now, to be a complete ***** i just say "Yeah you're right, thats what i keep telling my IVF Doctor, and he keeps getting wrong?!" then there is complete shock & SILENCE. God, iam PURE EVIL

I am very open about my IF so I just tell people.. yeah we are dealing with IF and they shut up real quick. I figure making them feel uncomfortable will make them think next time they do this to someone.
