Adventures in Puppy Parenthood: Too Many Scary Incidents...

Incident 1

So one night last week, DH and I were walking the dogs. I had Arnold and my husband had Shelby.

So we're walking up the block that leads to our street when we pass this house where there are people out in the front with their dog. Mind you their yard is NOT fenced in and the dog, though on a leash, is loose.

The house is on a hill so the yard is actually higher than the street...

So as we approach the house to pass it the dog runs to the edge starts growling and showing it's teeth at us. So needless to say we speed up when all of a sudden the dog takes off towards us!! Chat Icon

I stop, DH stops, he picks up Shelby, I grab Arnold's leash so he's closer to me and the IDIOTS in the yard are just watching this unfold. I yell, "Uh, excuse me, but could you get your dog??" to which this stoner kid comes running over and is "trying" to get the dog. He's circling us.

Oh and by the way our FEROCIOUS pit bulls they couldn't get CLOSER to us! Chat Icon

So the guy is taking what I feel to be an excessive amount of time to get his dog to which I tell him "Will you get your F*CKING DOG ALREADY???"

He was like, "uh, I'm trying". I couldn't believe it. The damn dog was on a leash!! Grab the damn thing and pull him/her away. How hard is this???

I swear, I'm a HUGE dog lover, but I swear, I was ready to kick the dog AND the OWNER!!

I couldn't believe it.

So finally, he gets the dog away, we walk away and get this!!!

My husband is pizzed that I yelled at the kid!!! I was like, "Are you KIDDING ME??? Chat Icon He's lucky I didn't kick the damn dog!!!" Chat Icon

Luckily, he saw the error of his ways and promptly apologized. Chat Icon

But all kidding aside, it was a very scary situation!! Poor Arnie and Shelby, they were like "what the hell is going on??" They are SO playful and SO not aggressive that they didn't know WHAT to do. I definitely felt like a momma bear protecting her young. I can only imagine what I'll be like with children. Chat Icon

Incident 2
Arnold has a skin growth that had to be tested for cancer. Long story short, I noticed it last week, so I made an appointment with the vet for Monday morning. Vet said she didn't like the way it looked so they took a biopsy to test it. THANKFULLY it was benign, but let me tell you, it was the LONGEST three days I've EVER lived through. I cannot begin to explain!! All I can say is HUG YOUR PETS and LOVE EVERY MINUTE WITH THEM!!!!

Incident 3
We have an escape artist, her name is SHELBY!! Shelby loves to be free, thankfully she doesn't stray too far and she comes when you call her. But nothing scares you like calling for your dogs and seeing NO ONE!!! This happened over the weekend and boy oh boy was that horrible! Again, long story short, she and Arnold figured out how to get under the fence! We fixed the situation the best we can but Shelby still finds places to get out. Arnold, he's happy where he is! Chat Icon

So now we're in a constant battle with Miss Shelby. We patch a hole in the fence, she finds a new one!! Bless her mischievous little heart!!

Well, I think that's about everything!! At least I hope for now, I don't think I could take anymore!!! Chat Icon

Incident 1 reminds me of times I have been in dog parks and a dog becomes very aggressive and the owner just sits there. I have left the park because of dogs that were aggressive and clearly not just playing. If my dog is provoked he is probably going to try to hold his own but that could get ugly. I think that anyone who sees their own dog being nasty should take the dog out of the situation right away!!!!!!!

It was horrible! And what really got my goat was that this dog was on a leash so why it took the dumb kid so long to get a hold of him/her is beyond my comprehension.

How Scary. Rudy gets out and runs and runs. You call him and he keeps going. Scares me so much..

One day I had rudy out for a walk. Im walking up to this house and all of a sudden I see a golden retriever out standing next to his owner. Busy street. NO LEASH. So now im stuck I kind of start walking slow. The golden STORMS us. I say to the guy "is the dog friendly" He say's "not with other dogs" THEN W T F would have it out NOT on a leash for?

Ugh - how scary, frustrating and annoying!

There's nothing I hate more than irresponsible pet owners! Chat Icon

Glad everyone is safe and sound.

Have you tried filling in the areas that they are digging in with rocks?

I feel your pain!!

I had something like incident No.1 happen recently - I was walking Misty and some kids had their lab mix on a leash. When the dog saw Misty, he just pulled the leash right out of their hands and took off at us barking and growling. I unhooked Misty as fast as I could cuz we were in a low traffic area and I felt I should at least give her a chance to get away and not get attacked. They ran around in circles while the two of the kids stood and cried, the other went in and got an adult who yelled at me for letting my dog off her leash!!! Oh yeah, I should just let your dog attack mine. Anyway, their dog ended up running down the street, Misty came back to me and we went back to our walk while they chased their dog.Chat Icon

ETA: and I'm glad to hear that Arnie's lump was benign....Shelby is going to need some serious training..Chat Icon

Oh man I feel your pain especially with #1! Chat Icon
I also agree with one of the posters- try putting rocks in some of the areas she may try to get through.
